Little granddaughter that I brag on all the time was just notified that she is a Semi-Finalist in the ARI Anthem Essay Contest at North Fort Myers HS. I gather they will do one on the Fountainhead when she is a Junior and Atlas when she is a Senior.

Ha! You're lying! You're not sorry at all! Nor should you be! Congrats to you and your granddaughter. Kids and grandkids are often our greatest pleasure....and to see one that recognizes what you ALSO perceive as valuable...well, I have one like that and so I can tell you that I know how much it means to you.

    Congratulations all around.

You caught me. As soon as she sent me a text with a picture of her letter from ARI, I knew I had to brag about it here. I never try to tell my kids(4) or grand children (6) what to think. I am not bashful with expressing my own views but I listen to theirs without unsolicited comment. I try to live in accordance with my beliefs but do not require that others follow.

I do believe that if you base your words and actions on reason and facts, that those that do likewise will come to quite similar conclusions and it is gratifying when they do. My oldest son, owner of Fountainhead Irrigation, Inc., is of like mind although more radical. The "semi-finalist" is only 14 but has an extremely high IQ and an adult demeanor and independence of thought that might take her to places that I may or may not understand. In any case it will be interesting to follow as I continue my dotage.

    A public school? Can't be.
    Congratulations to her.

It is better than that actually. There is on of my long stories about her and her copy of Atlas Shrugged but as she said it is too fat to fit in her backpack so as she was walking through the halls on one of her first days at this school, a teacher came up to her and said "Aren't you just a sophomore?" She said yes then the teacher said "We don't do that one here until you are a senior".

Outstanding! I'm quite surprised that anything Rand would be taught---much less celebrated---in a public school. Congrats to your granddaughter, and pat yourself on the back for a job well down with your son or daughter.
