A villain's essay

This essay could have been written by Simon Pritchett -- life isn't worth living, better to have never been born! My jaw dropped as I read it, at least the parts I could stand to read. And this guy is an actual professor of Philosophy, teaching and writing books and spreading this cancer.

To quote the opening of the article:

"In 2006, I published a book called Better Never to Have Been. I argued that coming into existence is always a serious harm. People should never, under any circumstance, procreate"

Want to make this world a better place?
    Raise your kids right.
If you can't do that, contraceptives are not that expensive.
No, the government is not responsible for providing such things. Not even health care.

To each their own, in fact people who have such a fatalistic view of life should not nurture and educate any conscious human that they have procreated..

This guy is suicidal and is urging others to adopt his suicidal attitudes. What he really needs is some psychological counseling.

I am sure he has effected others into thinking the same way, others that could of grown out of it, some that could be creating value for themselves and therefore others.

Everyone has a right to express an opinion but this one was not well thought out. I wonder if it is he that thinks You shouldn't exist and he is just covering those thoughts up by referring to himself.

Sounds just like a liberal to me.

Interesting that someone who believes that life isn't worth living continues to live his own life and require sustenance that the rest could use. He has written his idea, it can be communicated by others, show the rest the way and be done with this life!

The fact that there is some pain in life is not a reason not to exist. If life does become hell, there are some reasons why it can sometimes be rational to commit suicide. However, that does not mean that one should assume that this will always be the case.
Besides, in order to evaluate how a life can be, one should have some standard by which to make the evaluation. And what standard do you go by, if not the standard of life, and living in existence? Can non-existence ever be an ap-
    propriate standard, before even starting?

I would argue that non-existence for one that has already excepted their connection to existence, and most have at a young age, before the disappointments, would be worse than having an unhappy existence in this world.
One can always change one's conditions if not just think differently. There are so many options, so many connections and so many mentors to engage.

There is no options in non-existence, not to mention, one might loose out on the experience.
True, there is no telling what the alternatives are like, nor is there any answer to the question, "will I know I don't exist". Pretty bizarre if not mind blowing to think about.

I have observed that life and especially conscious life plays a small role in the perpetuation of existence, therefore, one should take advantage of all that is available...there is always a bright side.

Am I being too optimistic?..maybe, I wasn't always. Much of the pain of my existence was my own fault and many mentors in my life helped me see that. We each can play a role, we each have an intrinsic essence to manifest.

If one is ugly, like I am now, or worse...Capitalize on it...be honest...people are likely to disagree when you proclaim it...laughing

Also...do you think Steven Hawking is good looking???...no he's not, but look at the values he's created and can reflect upon.

Sorry, but couldn't finish reading all that drivel. The guy sounds miffed that HE didn't pop into the universe as God Himself and anything less is a total disappointment. He's the Jim Jones that wants to make the "kool aid" for the rest of humanity. FOA!!!

I encourage him to live his philosophy and personally help the world by, as soon as possible, removing himself from it. The race would be better off if the idiot had never been born and ending his life would benefit everyone.
