Trump denounces socialism in UN speech, greeted by silence (surprise!)

"The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented but that socialism has been faithfully implemented. From the Soviet Union to Cuba to Venuzela, wherever socialism or communism has been adopted it has delivered anguish and devastation and failure."

Can you imagine Hillary or Obama (or any other Republican presidential candidate) saying this at the UN? It should be entertaining to see the mainstream news media digest and discuss this statement.

Socialism like Communism is a fraud. Its real purpose is to provide a path to power for a self proclaimed "intellectual elite" to rise to positions of ultimate authority. It's just a replacement for monarchy and it relies on "useful idiots" to achieve those goals.

The speech was great, I like the single salutary clapper in the audience after that line; wish I knew who that was? It was a very long pause before others joined in...

We are headed towards socialism ourselves; if anyone here has school aged children, you know what I’m speaking about. The schools have stopped teaching the positive ideology of capitalism but have replaced it with scorn and ugly hatred. They teach our children about the positives of the collective and sacrifice. The snowflake generation will usher in a sweeping socialist agenda and capitalism in America will die.

I’ve taught my children but the 99% has not…

As a retired teacher, you are right..unfortunately. Case in point...some dimwit Snowflake is angry with Hobby Lobby for having a couple of cotton plants in a display. That, along with banana peels in trees, is just too much for the little darlings.

Any social system that can only be maintained by threat of force is fundamentally flawed. No one will ever force you to become a capitalist.

And all those who call Trump a buffoon, are the real buffoons. That is the most profound statement ever made before the UN. And, it wasn't made by a Kennedy, a Clinton, an Obama, the intellectual elite. But, was made by the so-called clown. Wise up Republicans. For a change you've got a winner.

ABSOLULTELY. Trump is not 100% good, but a HELL of a lot better than most of the other politicians. Amazing he got this speech through the speech writers, Venezuela is a current day study in the end game of socialism. WE should study it carefully to see where we are heading. Trump is a light in the dark, at least until the socialist establishment in both parties take him down in 2018 or 2020.

"Strong sovereign nations let their people take ownership of the future and control of their destiny and strong sovereign nations allow individuals to flourish in the fullness of life" President Donald Trump to the UN General Assembly and also from the president
" The Problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented...but that socialism has been faithfully implemented!"

Bravo to Trump the best President in my life. I am frankly pleasantly shocked at his clarity and sensibility.

Definitely an encouraging thing to say? Kudos to Trump. Not surprising that the other countries who have embraced various levels of socialism denounce him.

The facts speak for themselves. Venezuela is a prime example of the end game for socialism. Once the free money runs out (the high price of the oil they could actually get out of the ground), the system collapses. Ayn Rand predicted all of this in AS. As clear as day.

Now that I'm older, when I stop and really look at what the elite are trying to accomplish in this world...all the starvation, suffering that comes with it...I really see true evil. I see little traces of it from my few leftist friends when we have discussions. Their eyes twinkle at the thought of ruling over their fellow citizens, forcing them to do certain things, or maybe taking control over people's children. They don't bat an eye at the skinny, starving lady holding a sign begging at the intersection. They like it.

    ...noted...

What would one expect from a giant room full of bureaucrats in the semi-irrelevant UN whose only source of income is political power.

Of course this group hates freedom.

Was not surprised at all by the silent lack of response...the truth left them speechless.

The surprised was the lack of a show of cognitive dissonance! The vast majority of UN member nations practice some form of socialism to outright communism.

As Dob rightly identifies them as the "Kakistocracy", one should also note that the global collective is not eclectic at all. It truly is a homogeneous collection barring a few standouts that keep the whole thing interesting.

it is all about nomenclature...the meaning of the word and the emotional association with it...there is negative association with "communism"...not so with "socialism"...so in an conversation I refer to Venuzela as an example of communism...
