"After 13 years of service to Lowe's, an elderly white woman has been fired after she received a beating and black eye from black shoplifters brazenly rolling $2,100 worth of goods out of a store in Georgia. That's the steep price she paid for heroically trying to thwart the trio's theft -- in violation of Lowe's policy.
“They say that if you see somebody stealing something out the door, not to pursue, not to go out. I lost it,” Donna Hansbrough told the Effingham Herald. “I grabbed the cart. I don't actually remember going out but I did. And I grabbed the cart that had the stolen items in (it).”
Donna Hansbrough got a black eye when she tried to stop a trio of thieves -- and was promptly fired by Lowe's (Rincon Police Department)
Police say that cart was being pushed on June 25th by Takyah Berry, who punched Hansbrough in the face three times, leaving her with a black eye that lingers almost a month later. Berry was allegedly accompanied by her uncle, Joseph Berry, and a man named Jarmar Lawton. After attacking Hansbrough, Berry and her accomplices left with the stolen goods. Lawton is in police custody on unrelated charges, but the two Berrys are at large.
Like many good citizens, it seems Hansbrough simply lost her patience with corporate America's widespread toleration of shameless, daylight robberies. “I just got tired of seeing things get out the door. I just, I lost it. I basically lost all the training. Everything they tell you to do, I just…I just lost it," she said.
Takyah Berry, Joseph Berry and Jarmar Lawton left the Lowe's with more than $2,000 worth of merchandise (WJCL)
With more than a dozen years working at the Lowe's location in Rincon, Georgia -- about a half hour north of Savannah -- Hansbrough expected consequences but wasn't braced for Lowe's' cruel reaction to her selfless reflex that drove her to try to stop wrongdoing.
“I didn’t expect to get terminated,” the now-former live-plants customer associate said. “Maybe a reprimand or a suspension.” Choking back tears as she contemplated her sudden unemployment, Hansbrough told WJCL, "A lot of people know me as the plant lady...and it hurts, because I like them all." "

1.2 billion awarded to a stupid NYC teacher who couldn't pass the teachers exam? After a half dozen attempts? After being tutored? The man has an IQ somewhere around room temperature, and is rewarded for it? simply because he is black?
Ba-dee-ba-dee-ba-dee- that's all folks!
Welcome to the end of american society.
By design, of course.
However, this woman was nuts going after three men. Rhonda Roussey shouldn't go after three men. Most unarmed men, should not go after three men. She put herself in danger, big time, which is why Lowes has the policy that they do, not because they are woke. $2,100 is nothing compared to even her trivial black eye medical bills. She should get security and/or the police. Just going out and getting the license plate was enough.
It is not as if she was protecting another person from harm. Very bad judgement.
Lowes should have just reprimanded her ... unless they already have. M A Y B E this is the whole story.
A few years ago, a fight broke out next to our rental car (minivan) as we were leaving a restaurant. One of our guys (drunk) got out to "break up the fight". Two other of us then had to try to keep this drunk, idiot from getting killed. (not a physical specimen). We thought we had the situation under control, and ready to leave, until I turned around, and a third guy (unknown/unseen) sucker punched me right in the face. I spit out some blood from my lip, and looked right at the guy. He turned around and took off (which is what you better do if you hit someone square in the face and they don't go down). Did I chase him? No. Not worth it. If he had stayed there, he'd be in the hospital. Went back to the hotel with a big fat and cut lip.
Got home, and people were asking if I beat the snot out of the guy. As the conversation escalated, my brother in law, the doctor came to my defense. "He did just the right thing. That guy had nothing to lose. He has plenty to lose, and no one was being protected."
We had an Albertsons I frequented. 20+yrs ago. It was being robbed by people loading their cart, and sneaking out the door away from the registers and the manager. I've heard about it. This time, at 10pm on a Friday Night, I was by the door, I realized they didn't have a single bagged item. So I followed them to a pickup truck, they hard parked cockeyed, threw everything in the back of the truck, and sped off. I got most of the plate, and the color/make of the car.
I went in to give it to the manager, and he couldn't be bothered!!! he asked why I did that... OMG...
Needless to say, this store closed it's doors a couple of years later as it wasn't profitable. Imagine That!
But it is NOT worth the risk to the Store, or the Employees over "merchandise".
In my world, I would develop a drone with a camera, and have it lock on the cart/person, follow it to the car, Get the license plate (heck in the pickup, I would have dropped one of those apple tags in back of the truck... And send the details to the police)
worth the risk' to them. "In small towns" they probably will.
If the store owner/manager doesn't care to stop thieves and fires employees who do care,
they are the ones to be fired - by customers.
Catch thieves, press charges, and as punishment force them to repay the people they
harmed plus a penalty. If they steal again, expel them from society to the "colony"
in the Aleutians. Broadcast a reality tv show displaying the conditions of the punishment to
discourage other potential thieves.
Dishonesty should be punished equitably unless that has no effect.
If the perpetrators can't learn then, "out of the pool."
Letting them go encourages more theft.
Just as importantly, the elite corrupt thieves must be publicly humiliated and
punished severely including making their victims whole.
The example of injustice being set by the powerful insiders is a major source of crime.
Totally agree. Especially about filming the island as a reality TV show...
Double agree that Rudy Giuliani figured it out. Stop the small crimes, and the bigger crimes slow down... You CANNOT decriminalize crime.
I thought about carrying > $1,000 in my wallet, so if I am mugged, it's a "SERIOUS" crime. (See how twisted that gets!)
Otherwise the feds (or the local cops who love using seizure to expand their power) might accuse you of a crime and steal your cash.
Note to self~~Stay away from Lowe's. Me may get into trouble for shooting a mugger. So why go looking for it?
Even worse, I could be called a racist on TV.
If the state office, where I worked, ever had an active shooter situation, they would find me hiding in my shop (armed), not in a gun battle to save the lives of those who would willingly disarm me.
