Chess and Economics

"The winner of a game of chess earns it. The outcome cannot be assigned according to behavior the players do not control, including ethnicity or sex. Those belong to the world of bigoted determinism (woke ideology). In contrast, a bad move in chess may be an error of knowledge, and an active mind has the ability to learn and avoid those mistakes. Moral justice, objective law, and the game of chess have no preference for the circumstances of one’s birth or identity group."

You write with an amazing clarity of thought that, I’m sure, Ayn Rand would fully agree with.

Humans are capable of three things that no other mammal can do viz. Reason, Emotions, and Imagination. The tool of Reason is logic specifically Aristotle’s logic as found in his Organon. The tool of Emotions is Faith. The tool of Imagination is Creativity. Properly integrated, these three functions allow we humans to Think.
The problem we who think objectivity have is that we are undercut by the very people whose responsibility it is to teach children how to Think.

    One of the anti-objectivist leaders of the destruction of the human mind, John Dewey, wrote a paper My Pedagogic Creed in 1897; some excerpts;

“I believe that all education proceeds by the participation of the individual in the social consciousness of the race. This process begins unconsciously almost at birth, and is continually shaping the individual’s powers, saturating his consciousness, forming his habits, training his ideas, and arousing his feelings and emotions. Through this unconscious education the individual gradually comes to share in the intellectual and moral resources which humanity has succeeded in getting together. He becomes an inheritor of the funded capital of civilization. The most formal and technical education in the world cannot safely depart from this general process. It can only organize it or differentiate it in some particular direction…” and

“…I believe that the child should be stimulated and controlled in his work through the life of the community…”

and most evilly, “…I believe that we violate the child’s nature and render difficult the best ethical results, by introducing the child too abruptly to a number of special studies, of reading, writing, geography, etc., out of relation to this social life…”

This paper along with the National Education Association’s (NEA) total acceptance of its philosophy and content is the major reason our children and grandchildren cannot Think or do simple mathematics.

Do you think there exists enough kindred spirits in America to bury the Department of Education and scuttle the Public School system?

Wow, wow, wow. Who are you? First, thank you so much for your compliment. Very few actually read any of the original content I post, some read part of it I suppose. Regarding the rotten Dewey excepts above, you nailed it! I think eliminating the power of the teacher's unions is essential to eliminating the Education Dept., but it will take at least another generation, and that's optimistic. The Republican party, conservatives, school choice advocates, etc., are not close to understanding the drastic change needed, or why. They are collectivists who tacitly think education is a right. On a LinkedIn conservative group, I was asked by the curator what it would take to protect us from urban voters circumventing the Electoral College, and my recommendation was identical to yours. She doesn't get it.

        "She doesn't get it."

“The hardest thing to explain is the glaringly evident which everybody has decided not to see.”
        Ayn Rand

We are nearing the point in history where those who don't get it will be in total control and totally capable of collapsing civilization.

"Indeed, it seems absurd for anyone to think they can affect the outcome of market economies or meteorological events with a central planner’s computer models." Unfortunately the busy body control freaks think they can with the right amount of government force to create and maintain that closed system that defies reality.

I finally had the chance to read the whole thing. Thanks for sharing it in the Gulch!

Yes, thanks, and to me, the busy body control freaks have one motivation - to leverage their credentials to loot a productive economy, ostensibly, for the "common good." Altruism is the rule.

Key concept is the integrity of the rules on a chess board. Both parties agree as to the identities and capabilities of each piece.
We have NONE of that in society anymore. Even the very document that gives the government authority has been interpreted within an inch of its validity. A key concept that everyone needs to grasp is that when the Constitution becomes illegitimate then the government it grants power to also becomes illegitimate. That’s a rule zero kind of thing. Nothing else matters. At that point you have only tyranny because the contract We the People are alleged to have agreed to will have been nullified.

Yes! The rules originally adopted no longer apply. Both parties have agreed to transfer legislative authority to the executive and funding agencies is automatically increased. Definitions of all key terms are fluid. As you point out, integrity is under assault, as is every other virtue in OPAR. Altruism is the moral code.

Kinda of the way I viewed all the COVID shenanigans. I knew every bit of it was unconstitutional. Even the stuff the state legislatures said they had codified into law had just never been challenged before. It fell like a house of cards once people with brains got involved.
Same goes for 2A stuff. Until I see a constitutional amendment THEY can go pound sand.

"The move selected is the integration of perception, knowledge, response probabilities, and long-term goals. All of them require the uniquely human trait of free-will. This is no different than the profit motive inherent to free enterprise, yet foreign to centralized economic planners, dismissed by macroeconomic forecasters, and repulsive to social/climate justice warriors."
