Don't know about the fastest cars one. There were no factory 9 second cars in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 00s

Cobras are fast, but ~12 second 1/4 mile cars, not 9 sec.

I always wanted a Cobra. Have a picture and a model in my man cave. Visited Factory Five, and was ready to build mine from my 1990 Mustang. However, at the recommendation of a buddy, I went for a Lotus Seven for my kit car. Modern ones are faster in a straight line, and WAY, WAY faster on a track or corner. Mine weighs 1,100 lbs, has 200 hp, and a CG less than 12" off the ground.

Cobras are far more comfortable to drive though.

66 Shelby Cobra 427 with drag radials would run in the low 10s...keeping the wheels from spinning through the gears was the obvious problem, as was the same problem with my 1961 blown 406ci Ford Starliner running 15psi in drag slicks. Best I ever did was 11 sec 1/4 mile

I don't know man. 10's are really fast, not 20% faster than 12's. Don't think drag slicks get the Cobra there, especially when 0.25 sec are tied up in the guy's skill with a 4-speed.

            Another article on them.

15psi blown 406 probably makes 650 hp. Relative to the car's weight, that is probably equal to the Cobra. Did you run an automatic? So much better for drag racing.

              Love the stories...brings back memories...
Naw, 4 sp....laughing, a really really loose 4 sp. Mastered those shifts without the clutch...the only other Car I could do that with was a 72 240Z.
Ever race a naked skeleton?...that's what we were doing back then. Have to admit though, I really respected the car fully dressed...pretty she was in black and chrome. The 61 Starliners were among the prettiest of the big Fords.

I saw a 280Z with a Chevy V8 once in Hot Rod or Car Craft Mag. Always wanted to redo one, with a proper Ford motor!

Although at this point, GM LS is the way to go.

I remember the first V8 conversion in a 240Z was a disaster (in said mag) and had to be rethunked big time. The original 240/260 package was a well thought out one and a pleasure to drive... to improve upon it was to start from scratch and change everything. The American V8 did not work well with the trans and rearend of the Z.

My Race Z could top 160 and could corner like no other car I ever had...loved the lean-in front suspension and the rear was always well behaved.

Here is me dino's ready answer for any who says men can give birth or not knowing what a woman is.
    Ahem!
Only a woman has a uterus. A man has not.
The only way a man can make a baby is to impregnate an egg inside a woman's uterus.

Re bottom row meme #2~~That frying pan reminds me of a bought last year self-proclaimed non-stick pan that seriously stuck to food the first time I used it.
I ended up trashing it and replaced it with a pan that does not come advertised as being a non-stick. Guess what? I've used it several times and it hardly sticks at all.

Yep, I had way too much fun in the sixties. It saddens me to see kids staring at computers all day. They have no clue what they are missing. Can you say Woodstock?
