EU, according to Luongo, is a dead man walking, trying desperately to whistle past the graveyards of Viktor Orbán's election victory and Putin's throttlehold on EU energy needs.

The EU "leaders" consented to their own demise by not using the resources that they have access to: plentiful coal (about 70 billion tons reserves in Germany and Poland) and nuclear.
Australia and the US have another 400 billion tons of coal reserves.

Easy article to read. It may be an opinion piece prognosticating the future, but it looks like the author has it nailed.
