I was surprised to be warned that this article would "make some heads explode" in the Gulch. I hope none of the brilliant, committed Objectivist brains I admire blows up over a mere opinion of Walter Donway. This is the first time I ever have come CLOSE to praising the media. I do not mean ALL the means. And the article is mostly not even about the media. But I am ready to hear arguments about the need to support Mr. Putin...

do you trust those that for the past 5 years have lied to us about Trump and Russia??

do you trust those that lied to us for months about bio labs in Ukraine?

do you trust those that lied to us about Wuhan?

do you trust those still lying to us about vaccines?

do you trust those that lie to us about gun violence?

    about ANTIFA and BLM??

(it could be a very, very long list)

Walter this is very rare as I have agreed with and enjoyed your many articles. This one , I can’t get past this “but I think media coverage by and large has been objective,”. Really?
Like the phony fake PCR test for Covid , everything else is based on bad numbers and therefore worthless numbers unless you are trying too instill FEAR. If your article starts with this premise the rest is not worth reading. Sorry.

I keep forgetting how awful MSM coverage is. But this morning, I was held hostage at the oral surgeon's office while hubby was being operated on. I had forgotten how people just lap that crap up (watching others in the waiting room). And it was nothing but pure propaganda. Unbelievable.

dude, let me disagree with you on EVERY LEVEL...
To be clear, my opinion is that Putin is the Russian Trump (He loves his country deeply, and he does NOT want to expand it, hence, unlike America with 5,000 military bases everywhere, his are only in his country, and former USSR countries).

the bankers hate him. That's why they are coming for him. That and Oil. Funny how this started as they were finishing the pipeline into Germany.

Keeping in mind that Joe Biden even said "NATO is really there to be a thorn in Russias side".

My background. I've been to Russia a few times. I have Russian Programmers who have worked for (and with) me for over 20 years. My first visit was circa 1995, and I learned a lot. The Russian people are huge fans of the OLD America, it was our governments that hated each other. The single biggest difference... They KNEW their "Pravda" was not the truth.

Now the situation has reversed. On my first visit, to buy bread from the bakery, I had to pay the cashier first, then give the receipt to the lady at the bread counter (they couldn't trust the person to not just take the bread and eat it). Fast Forward to my last visit. 24hr "Hyper Markets", everything NICER than we have here. With better selections, and CLEANER. I was SHELL SHOCKED. Their own versions of Home Depot, where I found wheels I could not find in America (and I bought them to repair something back home).

I say this NOT to impress anyone, but to impress UPON you... I have some experience. I've spent as many nights in the homes of people, as I have in Top Hotels (Astoria, Radisson, Ring Premier)... And a few places I won't mention. LOL. Such is Russia.

Our media is leaving out some key facts. Putin was PUSHED to react to the SHELLING of Russians living in the Donbass Region. Ah, where was the media covering Ukraine shelling their own people. This is how BIDEN KNEW Putin was going to step in shortly.

Finally, I have Ukrainian and Russian friends here in the status. And between my programmers in Russia, I get BOTH the LEFT and RIGHT view. One hates Putin (he is most upset putin cut off his news sources... Twitter, Facebook, etc. LET THAT SINK IN). The other one, sounds more like a Trump supporter. He came with facts. Mentioned his Sources (RT, being one of them), and mentioned that NO NEWS Source is completely accurate.

Hmm... Of those two views, I am leaning towards the one that said:
    1) Where is the mention of 16,000 Dead in the Donbass region over the last 8 years?
    2) Why are there ACTIVE BIOWEAPONS places in Ukraine?
    3) Why is the US (Deep State) manipulating things in Ukraine so heavily
    4) Imagine that we spent 20 yrs trying to overthrow syria to get a PIPELINE into Europe, now we are doing this...
For what reason, would you think? Was a pipeline ready to open up? YES. And it turns off the spigot in Ukraine over time. It stops Ukraine from getting such a NICE CUT of the profits for letting it flow through their country. And it goes to Germany first, who is the LARGEST CONSUMER of fuel (most productive country).

But they can NO LONGER PAY for the oil, using SWIFT.

Could all of this be to prevent that pipeline from becoming active? Really productive?

And finally... My gent says "Putin has about 70% support among the Russians" Which aligns with the WEAK protests...

This is a 7 year old video. It explains/shows that NATO has been the Aggressor towards Russia all along, and it predicted that NATO and the EU would force the very situation were are looking it.

And as for your PRAISE that the media is "All doing Well, in UNISON"... Beware...
The ONE THING I am certain about... Is when the media ALL has the same answer/angle... The story is PLANTED!

The first rule of warfare is to control the information. Putin hasn't even tried. What does that tell us? It means that Putin isn't doing this (invasion) under any kind of meaningful operational security. Coming from the guy who headed the KGB for decades, this doesn't make any sense unless Putin WANTS information coming out of the war zone. So what is it that he wants exposed? What is his real goal (aside from the possible takeover of Ukraine)? Could it possibly be taking the bio research labs in Ukraine he has been complaining about for twenty years? I don't propose to know the truth, but I don't for one minute buy the notion that Putin is insane, etc. Crazy like a fox maybe...

I don't need to reiterate what mhubb, CaptainKirk, Dobrien, and Blarman have already written here to give an idea of what I've come to know over the past 4 or 5 years. That is, the Ukraine government is not really an innocent budding democracy, but rather has become corrupt up to its eyeballs and Zelenskyy is just as much a bully as Putin in many respects. Maybe Putin could have worked out some other solution to the Donbass separatist problem, but what about biolabs and corrupt Ukraine joining NATO?

This may sound heartless, but now that the Russians have invaded, sending tons of support to Ukraine will only prolong the war and stack up more innocent bodies and may even expand the war beyond Ukraine. IMHO, the Russians are going to finish what they started and will win in the end. The only question is at what cost to both sides? Time to let it go. Maybe American troops would not fire on hostiles hiding behind innocents, but do not expect Russians to follow the same rules. Also, I do not subscribe to the theory that Putin will go farther and attack a NATO country after taking Ukraine.

All good points, guys. Perhaps you don't realize how simple-minded I am, about some things. I see the story as a brutal dictatorship, Russia under Putin, launches a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, for decades a captive within the "Soviet Union," and now, newly liberated thanks to the disintegration of the Evil Empire. I see that in bald terms as the objective account and I see that as the story reported, for the most part, by the media. I explain this not as a suddenly embracing of Objectivity. I see it as reporting a story with which postmodernism journalism is okay. Bad dictatorship invades struggling democracy. And the rest of my article, which you may or may not see as worth reading, is on the theme that this highlights the dangerous world of which you and I and others have warned. Thanks for the comments. Always am interested in what you have to say.

I hardly thinQ you are simple minded. You may recall that my comments regarding your essays have all been favorable. That said ,I believe you need to check your premises.
Example of the Fake news... CNN reports Bernie Goers is the first American Casualty in Ukraine.
That is very very sad, especially if you thinQ of his family. I mean to have to morn this loss. Particularly when CNN reported him as the first American casualty in Afghanistan after the US cut and ran. Imagine the pain of losing the same family member Twice in 4 months. Or how about the heroic Ghost ace who single handily shot down 7 Russian fighter jets, oops the scenes shown the public were from a video game, imagine that. Or how about the heart wrenching scene of the woman with a head bandage standing in front of the apartment bldg Russia attacked. Funny the exact same woman wearing the same dress and the same blood spot on the bandage standing in exactly the same place in front of the apartment that had a gas explosion in 2018. Or how about the gut wrenching scene of the woman sending her lover off to the front, never mind That it was actually a scene from the movie
The war of Chimeras. I personally was moved by the Jammed up 3 lane hiway of panicking folks trying to escape the country. Yes it was from “The Apocalypse “ but I can imagine from that scene how terrible it really must be. Another heart wrenching image shown all over the news was a little boy and girl watching the tanks roll by as they held hands and the girl holds a doll. The nutrition must be very poor there in Ukraine as those kids did not grow any bigger since 2006 when they stood in th3 sam3 place watching tanks roll by.
Remember the 15 soldiers who told the Russian to F off and we’re killed. Did not happen as they actually surrendered.
Now we are supposed to believe that after 2 weeks Putin is attacking a maternity hospital.
Putin could have destroyed the whole country 4x over by now with conventional weapons.
We are benefiting because the money laundering of our $ is seriously threatened , hence the bipartisan mocking birds.
This action by Russia is a defensive action in my judgement based on reason and logic , that is to get rid of the Eight or more bioweapon labs that not only threaten Russia but the whole world.
Also to protect Russian sympathizers. From a news clip.

Ukraine Intensifies Shelling of Donbass as Western Media Are Silent
While much of the world is focused on Covid-related issues, Ukraine's seven-year war on the people of Donbass continues. In recent weeks, Kiev's shelling of civilians has intensified, met by the predictable Western media silence.
Ostensibly, following the Minsk agreements, there was a ceasefire. In reality, Donbass residents in villages bordering peace lines are incessantly subject to Ukrainian shelling.

I just recieved notice of a suggested you tube video from the Washington Beacon titled .
“Images from Ukraine Shock the world” I watched it and there was no reporting to the Quick 2 min montage just what I would describe as an anxiety provoking sound track. Similar to when in a movie, a home intruder threatens the typical woman victim. The images were of mushroom clouds of smoke from explosions that were pretty far away , who blew them up was indiscernible . What the target was , no way of knowing? One interesting clip from a cell phone , I gather , was
Russian Tanks(?)Driving single file through a city street that. appeared to have normal life going on. The tanks had no intention , at that moment ,of doing anything to the commuters sharing the road or walking down the street.
I could be wrong but I don’t think I am. Lastly it has been publicly stated that Putin stands in the way of the New World Order as the corrupt Cabal now openly call for.

If you do want any real footage from Ukraine, follow the Instagram of viktorkee. He's a native of Ukraine and as far as I can tell, he returned there to help. Although he speaks superb English (he escorted me and friends around a Cirque du Soleil backstage and spoke eloquently about his art), he is basically messaging his fellow Ukrainians, so not all of it is understandable, also, a good bit of his messaging is concerning the arts, etc. Of COURSE he is on the side of Ukraine, but the pictures are not copied from an old movie, is my point.

Haven't there been Russians in Donbass helping with the fighting since 2014? I don't think the Ukrainians are just shelling their own people. 14,000 have died in the many years of that war.

let me add that FoxNews has NEVER sent me a notification in years. I no longer have cable. I do not follow their content.

When this "Propaganda" effort started, I was getting at least 2 hits a day to my android, with GOOGLE pushing their content. This TELLS me it is propaganda! "Basically, even FoxNews thinks Putin Bad".

I will ask you to set aside some of your obvious "Beliefs" about Putin for 10 minutes.
First, if you ask me if he has KILLED (or ordered the killing) of his political enemies.. I will agree. But as my Russian friend says "If he did not do this, to prove his seriousness amongst the powerful... He would have been killed in what you call the Primaries!".

With Regards to being able to overrun Ukraine. The President of Ukraine sent out a notification of his location Publicly, and said he was not afraid of the Russians. In a TRUE WAR (or with an Impulsive Leader with something to prove), he would have SHELLED this gguys office! But it didn't happen. (Again, they called Snowden a "Low Level Analyst"... LMAO, this is the same kind of "triggering" attack to trigger a bad reaction... And the calmer head keeps prevailing).

for 10 minutes. I want you to ASSUME PUTIN is 100% right. That NATO might be provoking him. That this MIGHT be about OIL, and him turning off the power that Ukraine has with control over the flow of his income. And that he is ONLY DOING this to protect the Russians being shelled, and to stand up to an Aggressive NATO.

Then I would like you to read the SAME INFORMATION you credit for being "on point" for a change.
Read the material as POSSIBLE Propaganda. And see what you "sniff out".

In the end, I don't care if you agree with me. Disagreements are fine. But falling for the Same Playbook used against Syria (another pipeline), Afgahnistan, etc. Is questionable.

I posted this video I received elsewhere. here is a link. NOW, I have sent it to my Russian Sources to CONFIRM the translation... I SAM WAITING on the reply. If it turns out to be false, I will respond here ASAP! (I strive to produce solid information or none!)

This article missed several pieces of historical information. One critical piece is that the current Ukrainian government was essentially installed by the west during the Ukrainian "color revolution" that removed a democratically elected government that refused to play with the western and EU money system. Secondly the media totally ignored all the evidence showing US DOD investments into several biolabs within Ukraine. Before this invasion, instead of unbiased thorough investigative reporting the western media fell back to its Yellow journalism roots and continues to sensationalize its reporting to encourage/build up support for continued or even expanded war efforts. War is bad and there will always be unintended causalities especially among the same people governments seemingly swear to protect.

I like to think of myself as fairly objective, so I tend to just look at results, rather than a slant either direction. Technically, just looking at numbers, the Russian military should have been able to roll over the much smaller Ukraine forces in a few days, with few casualties on either side, especially civilians, but that didn't happen. Why was that?

Filtering out the obviously manufactured stories and overuse of stock footage, there are military analysts who are trying to fit the pieces together, and the story seems to show a much less efficient Russian military than we'd assumed. Casualty counts are alarmingly high for the Russians (not as high as reported by the Ukrainians, of course), numbering close to 5,000, which is about half of what they sustained in Afghanistan.

Apparently Russian armor is taking a beating from all of the antiarmor weaponry supplied to the Ukrainians, including the surprisingly effective Turkish Bayraktar UAV. No sign of the T-14 Armata "supertank," which would confirm that it still hasn't become operational. The T-90, which was also considered by some to be far superior to the T-80, turns out to be very vulnerable, and in some respects inferior to its predecessor (mainly the effect of using the same engine as the T-80, carrying a heavier armor weight).

Where are Russian special operations teams (their equivalent to our SEALS) that should have swept in and captured Zelensky? Why was the Russian military given such poor intelligence to begin with? There are some who suggest that Putin launched this operation against the advice of, or without notifying the FSB.

As a former USAF officer, I was shocked when it became obvious that the Russians couldn't establish air superiority, much less the air supremacy they should have been able to against such a modestly armed opponent. Was it a failure of leadership, tactics, or was the Russian capability lacking, despite numbers?

I knew about the existence of bioweapons labs, because they were part of the Soviet biowarfare capability, but they were supposed to have been done away with after the collapse of the USSR. Apparently the temptation to take advantage of such well established technology was too much for some in the Pentagon to pass up, especially after we piously destroyed our own labs. There's a disgustingly savory story for some real investigative reporter there.

To me, the "who shot John" side of all this is irrelevant. This is a nasty situation that needs to be brought to some end soon, and I'm not interested in who to blame.
