Wonder how many “Carbon Credits” that EV fire just cost? LMAO!!!!!
I think we can all agree The Market is the best way to combat “Climate Change”. Everything else is just cleverly disguised grift.

The thing is....I’m not vehemently opposed to Electric Vehicles. At least not from a political/ideological standpoint. If a company can make me an EV that satisfies 90% of my market needs and is practical financially, I’m in! But, all this guilt and shame and government ramming them down our throats is just going to result in more episodes like this. We’ll spew 100 tons of carbon in the air to save 1 ton of carbon over the life of the vehicle. And that’s not counting the fire.
The latest thing I like rubbing liberal greenies noses in is that the concentrated waste found in batteries is the equivalent nuclear waste. From a power plant. There’s still toxic waste. It’s just highly concentrated instead of diluted throughout the atmosphere. Ergo, if you favor EVs and are at least kind of intellectually honest you should favor Nuke Plants. They really don’t like that line of logic.

If the only thing I had to do was go grocery shopping once a week I suppose an EV would suffice. Like a golf cart.

Oh, I still like the way you think, LOL!

Or those little three wheelers like the rest of the world. Little faster than golf cart (45/55) and enclosed. But ironically our government red tape and laws make those almost impossible.

            Like wise mcannon! Likewise!
I look at this charade coming from the fake left side of the aisle and see it as just a new way for Big Oil to exploit people and get rich. And while in true Randian fashion it’s completely within their rights to get rich, using violent coercion vis a vis the gubermint is no bueno. Leftists like to argue the “violent” part. But, as we all know, someday if we refuse to pay our “Carbon Tax” and all the associated interest and penalties that come along with it, eventually someone with a gun will show up.

What am I missing? Move x amount of mass x distance at x speed. Burning petroleum, dirty business. Making the electricity is a dirty business particularly using it second hand. Making batteries
and disposing of them are another dirty issue. But batteries
are heavy (mass) and electric motors are heavy and the special transmission is heavy. (leave the electrical system out and a little gasoline engine gets better mileage.)
The elephant in the room is the mass. 90% of the time vehicles have one occupant used to get point A to B. Even a vehicle with a large gas tanks lugs around extra mass wasting energy. Downsize seems first logical step. And I might add, the way prices are climbing all the people will soon be buying a little Italian scooter.

Thank goodness it didn’t happen in someone’s garage.
Approximately 4,000 primarily from Volkswagen Group brands, including Porsche and Lamborghini, were onboard and being shipped from Germany to the U.S. when the ship caught fire for still unconfirmed reasons, although some have suspected it may have been caused by a battery in one of the electric vehicles in the shipment.

LOL. I have 1,000 reasons I think EVs are not the way to go.

But the 2 biggies are that without infrastructure, they are useless.
And THIS stuff. It takes ONE EV to start on fire, to bring a ship full of vehicles down...

Besides, I believe the push to ALL electric is simply so they tax electricity...
Remembers, these are RENT seekers... (in the most negative connotation)

The UK has already announced requirements for charging an EV in your own garage. You have to register your charger with your electric utility, and install it using a special outlet -- which will give the utility the ability to drain, as well as charge, your car. That way if the utility is overloaded, they can repossess the power they sold you to run the rest of the grid. It is illegal to defeat this.

And of course, in a few years time they will ban gas stations, so that only EVs will be able to run. But you'll never know, until you check it in the morning, whether your car is going to have enough stored power to do the job you want it for that day.

This is part of the Great Reset. We need to say no to it before the infrastructure is built, or we're stuck with it and hosed.

I was surprised the shipping company or vessels owners offered up salvage rights or to get ocean-going fireboats out to the ship. If the owners insured through Lloyds of London would be fully compensated for the loss.
I do agree with most of the comments that it was probably a faulty Lithium battery pack in one of the vehicles that caused the fire. I have had my own experience with an electric vehicle, a Nissan Leaf, written about here on the Gulch. I do agree that the battery power packs contain toxic elemental components and the infrastructure for recycling them is very low on most automobile manufacturers' when selling those vehicles. What the Green Left doesn't understand or refuse to acknowledge is that the rare earth minerals used in the building of those batteries come from not-so-friendly countries. The buyers of electric cars don't understand the debacle they will get into when the battery packs become depleted and need to be replaced. Charging stations around the country are not adequate in many areas. Also, the electrical grid and generating plants may not be able to handle a lot of Teslas plus other electric vehicles in need of charging.
