I'm still waiting for a validated scientific study that contrasts death-rate statistics from years past with 2020. I've heard rumors that "COVID deaths" include anyone who died of anything, but with a possibility that the person might have been exposed to the CCP virus.

I've also heard that NOBODY died of "the flu" in 2020.

Where are the numbers? Where is the actual science? To me it continues to appear that we are to trust "the science" the same way the folks in H. C. Andersen's story were to trust what they were told of the Emperor's garments in Kejserens nye klæder. Ignore your lying eyes!

So I searched back to the original article to see what it really said. This is out of my area of expertise but it was obviously written by objective, rational men without a political agenda. It supports the antidotal evidence while not denying the absence of scientific proof with blind testing. Instead it relies on what has been proven and the logic of concluding that there are methods and medications that would be beneficial to the treatment of those infected. Extensive research on job displacement can be used to estimate the economic impact in life-years of starkly increased unemployment for mid-to-late career workers.
Combining these analyses, we found that an estimated 18.7 million life-years will be lost in the United States due to the COVID-19 lockdowns. Comparative data analysis between nations shows that the lockdowns in the United States likely had a minimal effect in saving life-years. Using two different comparison groups, we estimate that the COVID-19 lockdowns in the U.S. saved between a quarter to three quarters of a million life-years.

The media and state and local governments contributed to the panic by selectively presenting evidence on COVID-19 and shutdowns of dubious benefit.

By example my older cousin I just found out had past away he had Prostate Cancer a few years back was treated and in remission, then recently diagnosed with Lung Cancer hospitalized developed Pneumonia according to his family. Then they found out they marked his Death Cert as passing from Covid. They were very upset at the hospital. But, wouldn't change the diagnosis.
