Why poverty in Eden?
The economy is roaring along. Thanks to Trump and his use of Capitalism's tenets we are truly the wealthiest nation in the world. Is it not obscene that there are places in , let's say New York ,that make Soweto look like Beverly Hills. We have had ineffectual poverty programs and still there is a desolation that seems to be tolerable because of some unspoken conviction of futility. "The poor will always be with us," but nobody uses such words any longer. They use code words instead, such as 'structural' and 'behavioral' as long as the middle class is doing fine. Not one penny should be spent on foreign aid until those who live in say, East New York are made to have the opportunity to get education and training without fear of retribution.
It is good to hear from you.
Foreign aid is just a kickback machine for the looters. Donate materials and commodities if we feel it is in our countries interest to assist. Help engineer and build infrastructure. It’s hard to steal part of a dam or pier or highway and deposit it in an Elmer Fudd Acct.
Ineffective poverty programs?
Why those programs are effective ......poverty is thriving where those programs are targeting.
How about wealth programs for the poor.
Get rid of the victim mentality and adopt a victor mentality.
Incentives motivate. Scrap public education administrators and start from scratch. Pay the teachers and admin on results. Individual results. Not some subjective measurement. Make intelligence a “cool” trait. Encourage the individual.
Promote an ethical self interest. Make America Great Again.
"Why those programs are effective ..." Yep, they are really working. Not more than an hour ago I waited in line at the grocery store while a 20-something wearing designer clothes, at least $1000 of tatoos, coif and nails obviously professionally done was getting the food stamp card to swipe.
My wife called me at work and asked me to pick up some cheap hot dogs and buns to cook outside for "something different" for the kids and they liked hot dogs - so did I, actually, and still do. At the checkout line in the grocery store I was preceded by a man in a nice shirt and sport coat and nice shoes who unloaded his groceries and two big bags of dog food onto the conveyor belt. To pay, he dropped a bunch of food stamps on the counter to which the checkout girl informed him food stamps will not pay for dog food and he had to pay by other means. He instructed the girl to take the dog food off the conveyor and ran back into the store leaving the rest of us waiting in line. He returned with a stack of steaks and asked if the food stamps would cover them? Yes was the reply and he proceeded to check out. He turned and looked me right in the face with a big grin and laughed "My dog's gotta eat! ha ha". My taxes bought steak for this man's dog while my family gets cheap hot dogs. Honestly, I wanted to kill him - and his dog. The look on my face must have betrayed my thoughts because he dropped the grin and left immediately. Oh, he got into a late model Cadillac and drove away. I will never forget his face or the sound of his smirking voice saying "My dog's gotta eat".
Nothing penetrates there. It is a different species.
I am reminded of the sci fi films where the only way to eliminate an alien species is to destroy it.
If we could add Mac and cheese it was a feast. I was sixty pounds lighter then , but hey 1 1/2 lbs a year adds up. The Beautiful Wife delivered Three kids and is still 115. Sorry mind wandering....
Silly me used to think that people don’t want to be on assistance and given a chance would spare the embarrassing position of being seen in public using food stamps. That story you told is just the opposite.
Good news is that Trumps Job promoting economic policies has taken 3.5 million off of food stamps.
Food stamp participation has hit a 10 year low.
Hahaha, my husband was in danger of losing a wife that day.....!
I would love to see a policy taking money and children away from those who haven't the means to pay for them. There are so many people wanting to adopt children in the USA that they are going to China and Russia for children. Take the children, raise them to understand the value of things and how to work to achieve them. Get rid of the culture that makes idols out of thugs and believe that school isn't cool.
There are so many stories of people who rose above a meager beginning, so it is obvious that with the proper attitude it can be done.
Dogs, cats, horses are depending on us. It is not their fault when rules set by humans end up in conflict.
You are the reason the left shuts down all communications with the sane part of the country.
Providing answers to your questions would cause them a fatal stroke or heart attack. It is all self defense.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend:)
Related: from the Imprimus link I posted,Rediscovering the Wisdom in American History.
"We are creatures with free wills and aspirations, not merely tumbleweeds at the mercy of large historical forces. Hope is a quality of soul, something that’s not quantifiable or explicable in strictly material terms. It is a consistent characteristic of this country that we have always sought to rise above or move beyond the conditions that are given to us at birth—something not true of every people. To be an American is to believe that the status we are born into is never the final word. We have a spirit of striving, a spirit of hope that goes back to our very beginnings"
The old saying also applies, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink"
PS...IN THE MEME TIME...just posted...have a laugh on me.
But you can't make 'em drink.
And that is unfair to the mouse.

Thanks for the quote!
Years ago, my first ex-wife (may she rest in peace) was a teacher in a bad neighborhood in New York City. I was self-employed as a house-call physician for a while and made occasional visits to her classroom. One day, her class and others went on a field trip to Staten Island (a bus ride perhaps an hour away). I brought a half-gallon canteen full of water. After the children were outside playing for a while, I noticed that there was no opportunity for anyone to get a drink of water easily and ordered the children to stand in line and cup their hands and I would pour some water into each person's hands. They cooperated. Teachers later marveled at their obedience; I merely note that the teachers ignored their obvious needs and I didn't. Uncaring! The teachers union, permitting those idiots to oversee children, are part of the problem. Have you seen the practice questions for the PRAXIS test that is generally required to get a teacher's license? It's ridiculously easy. The unions want malleable idiots to be teachers, people easy ton control, people who will surrender union dues without dissent, children be damned.
More recently, I sent a DVD to the local prison in Maine hoping to reform pedophiles, aware that teaching children not to talk to strangers and locking up the child molesters though helpful aren't the only tactics to consider. It had conservative and libertarian principles. By way of "thanks," the Maine medical board insisted on my getting a mental-health evaluation to keep my medical license. I consider the response evidence that the Powers That Be want the disadvantaged to remain disadvantaged and the hated and disparaged to remain hated and disparaged. Now, that being said, I agree with the other posts on this page about the misappropriation of our taxes.

Their concern is to get their millions once close to power. Do you think they care about the constituents? The homeless masses in Silicon Valley, LA or San Francisco?
NAH!
The concern is only in the slogans that the sheeple buys wholesale.
