I’m a retired military officer having enjoyed a unique career. I served as an aviator, attended training overseas with our friends and allies, and as a member of the US Country Team at two US Embassies, one in Latin America and the other in North Africa.

Following retirement from the DoD I worked as a business development executive for a US Defense contractor.

My number one book is Atlas Shrugged; I have given away nearly 100 copies to people I’ve met along my journey.

I have been reading Galt’s Gulch for years now, I won’t even guess how many as I font know how long it’s existed. I am only now back as an upgraded member. I fully intend to do my best to be a worthwhile, contributing member.

Reading your comments I have to add something. When I was a single man and interested in a particular woman we would eventually, typically discuss favorite foods, movies and sooner or later books. If my interest (date) had not read Ayn Rand I would put a copy in their hands. I made it clear how important Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged were to me, telling them that reading these works would likely provide some insight into who I am.

My wife Donna, the love of my life, told me when we discussed books that she had read both books as light “summer reading” when she was in high school.

Another woman that I ultimately ended a relationship with still, to this day, mutters “Check your premise...” (We’re good friends still.)

My wife Donna declares that she knew back in 1976, when we were college sophomores, the sort of man I was and I would become. I certainly had absolutely no idea who I was or what sort of a person I would become at that age!

Love the Gulch however still a bit intimidated to jump in with both feet. Thanks for welcoming me as you have.

    John

Welcome to the Gulch John! If you've given away 100 copies of Atlas then you have a high appreciation for a life of reason, purpose and pride. This group was formed by the producers of the Atlas Shrugged movie series, in 2012 I think.

    Hello John
I look forward to your contributions to this board.
When my father was looking for an investor for his business he met a gentleman for lunch to discuss his plan. Walking out to their cars the investor opened his trunk. He grabbed a book from a large box filled with copies of Atlas Shrugged. He handed it to my Dad and told him he will not invest with anyone until they have read it. Long story short, the ten year loan was paid in full by the end of the sixth year.

Me too, John. Hey D. I like your story. My friend who set up a miniature theater in an office building he owns is showing AS to all his friends. Also showing 'America' and the others by DD.
