- 56Posted by freedomforall 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The MoonMany times. My favorite sci-fi book.
I'm re-reading all his books. Currently on The Menace From Earth. - 57We've all read "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Bob Heinlein, right?
- 58Posted by NealS 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The MoonYes, I didn't think about that. I was thinking more about Musk's connection to Tesla (TSLA), and his private (some soon to go public, or maybe even consolidated) stock. Ex.: SpaceX, xAI, Neuralink, The Boring Company, and who knows what else. I believe every time they put something big in writing about Musk it can have a bearing on the stocks he mostly controls.
It's just like on Monday morning Apple stock dropped (insignificant), maybe due to the half-time show, maybe not. But then if you look at what the NFL stock price the morning of the 9th you'll find out that's pure bull. - 59Posted by starbird56 1 week, 2 days ago to Our children deserve a better education.I teach freshman English in a local college. It's bad. On the first day of class, I hand out worksheets so they can teach themselves how to read and write cursive. The semester lasts 16 weeks, so there's only so much I can do in such a limited amount of time.
- 60Posted by freedomforall 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The Mooniirc, SpaceX is still private, so no stock price.
- 61Posted by rhfinle 1 week, 2 days ago to Our children deserve a better education.I said years ago, and held up to it (to the tune of a small fortune) that I wasn't going to inflict "public school" on my kids.
My daughter has a Master's Degree and is currently studying to take the MCAT.
I think that:
1) the teacher's unions (and all Federal worker unions, for that matter) should be abolished.
2) local businesses and parent groups should determine curriculum and content, based on the needs of the community
3) parents should pay for their own kids' education
4) "busing" should be eliminated. Parents should be allowed to enroll their kids in schools of their choice, and not to be moved around and have their friends picked for them because of some Democrat's plan for race mixing.
5) "government schools" should be a last resort to teach the incorrigible delinquents how to collect garbage.
The one thing that has destroyed this country more than anything else is symbolized by the yellow school bus. - 62Even scarier when one considers what some of those workplaces might be: operating rooms, airplane cockpits, pharmaceutical companies, etc.
- 63Yet another story came out this week where a Dumbocrat politician is requiring a government-issued photo ID to get into his speaking event, and yet he believes it's wrong (he said so that night when questioned by a reporter) to demand the same to cast a vote. If every Dem in Congress who holds this position dropped dead where they stood, we'd be a lot better off.

- 66Posted by NealS 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The MoonA friend and I laid out on my parents' lawn all night looking up at the stars. We were contemplating infinity. The only concern I really have about Musk's project is, what will it do to his stock price?

- 68Posted by NealS 1 week, 2 days ago to I watched the Super Bowl last night. The 1984 Super Bowl. When Men Were Men and the NFL Wasn't A Voice of Communist Propaganda. We watched the alternate halftime show on Turning Point USA. Later watched parts (fast forwarded) of the recordeded NFL show. What a slap in the face to America and Americans. I've boycotted the NFL since Colin Kaeperncik, but I had to watch the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Perhaps I need to continue my boycott now. The TPUSA show was a whole bunch better.

QED: No windows. Lots of sealed pressure-proofed compartments below ground level. - 70Posted by Commander 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The MoonHe's going after the regolith ..... Helium 3. Cold Fusion Reaction Power Generation.
Direct electric power without steam generators. - 71Posted by freedomforall 1 week, 2 days ago to Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold will pay more in California state taxes than his entire Super Bowl bonus check.Commifornia's laws are crazy for everyone.
Regardless of what I think about the insanity of a relatively mediocre player
being paid $35 million a year, the players should have tax advisers on how
to structure their contracts so Commifornia and all the other commie states
(e.g., NY, MA, IL, and the USA) have very little to tax.
(My response to the insanity is to boycott everything the NFL does.) - 72Posted by fairbro 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The MoonMicronovae occur only on white dwarf stars—the dense, "dead" cores of stars that have already run out of fuel. Our Sun is currently a "main sequence" star and won't become a white dwarf for another 5 billion years.
- 73Posted by freedomforall 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The MoonA 1% variance is 120 years on the scale of 12,000 years.
Current "science" has proven to be much less accurate than that (albeit often there is a hidden agenda.;^)
They are just making a guess based on data that has not been proven. There is no data on how the poles
moved in the past. So they could slow down, reverse direction, or speed up. There is no data to make an
accurate prediction on that as far as I have seen.
They are just making a guess based on the best "available" data and that data is unproven.
There are too many assumptions based on unproven data, imo.
That said, imo, the only hope for human civilization is if their guesses are off by at least 100-200 years and
that technology advances make it possible to make better prediction and to protect the earth if needed. - 74Everything now indicates a 20y timeline unless by some miracle, the poles stop moving. I'm sure if the majority of mankind understood, the would appreciate that if it happened.
Know some talented actuaries and have tried to determine a +/- years into the galactic current sheet from one trip around the galaxy to another but can't seem to get a consistent set of data points.
My premise is that there might be variability in how and when our solar system encounters the waves of the current sheet. I would not expect each time around producing the same exact encounter.. - 75Posted by freedomforall 1 week, 2 days ago to Elon Pivots To The MoonAt least Mars has an extra 50 million miles to dissipate the effect of the blast,
cheap real estate, no taxes, and no governmental interference to speak of.
Could be that the blast is 100+ years away and underground Mars settlement
might be realized in time.
