I don't think that marijuana should be against the law. I do think it does brain damage, and I would never use it. I do think that someone who passes it to minors should be prosecuted. (In principle, that would be like selling alcoholic beverages to minors, which is also illegal).

I have a problem with "legalizing" it; putting sales tax on it, and thus making the government dependent for its operations on a brain-damaging drug, but I think it should be decriminalized instead, if that is possible.

The problem with eliminating criminality of using, dealing marijuana is one Colorado and Washington state are now dealing with. Legally licensed dealers can't compete with cartel street sales, because of the cost of licensing and taxes. Cartel sales in those states are booming, and the statistics tell us that the cartels are "graduating" users to even cheaper drugs like heroin or methamphetamine that offer higher highs and almost instant addiction.

Alcohol is well regulated, and there are severe penalties for misuse, but we still have moonshiners who sell illegally. However, efficiency and automation, developed over about the last 80 years, has made alcohol cheaper than the moonshiner variety where its legal. Moonshiner sales are still profitable in "dry" counties, because the legal variety isn't available at all. It's all about the money.

It beats me why Cannabis should be legal.

There is a TV show "Bong Appetit" that presents a competition between chefs to prepare dishes with Cannabis, and they are judged by a panel consisting of characters you would be scared meeting on the street at night.

The dishes must contain a certain percentage of Cannabis.

By the end of the show the entire panel is stoned. after tasting every dish.

I assume that will be an acceptable spectacle associated with Cannabis. Some like to compare Cannabis to alcohol in their justification for its legal use. But being publicly drunk is not acceptable so why is it acceptable to being stoned?

BTW, those who need it for medical reasons could easily have it prescribed by their doctor. There is no need to make it available for the entire population for that reason.
