I agree with other posts here that I could be braking to fall into a trap.
My having a pistol in my pocket won't help if I already have a gun aimed at my face--or worse. .
Love it!
It happens all the time. When you stop there, you must switch on your flasher. That is DMV rule.
It is not surprising drivers did not react.
You guessed right- I am a man and would not scream if alone in a stranded car. I would be too busy trying to figure out how I got stranded and what to do about it. But, thats my genes...
I'm probably driving into a telephone pole.
She is, also six feet tall and I am not kidding when I said beautiful. She is Chech!
(Most) people are good, but I am never willing to allow others that much ability to influence my life. Since we have moved 5 hours away from "home" in the past 3 years, I've had time to think about this. My first level of defense is my husband, who considers it unthinkable for me to have to travel alone. But that cannot last forever, as we all have an inevitable end.
So, I make sure I'm armed. I make sure the vehicle is in tip-top running condition. My phone is charged and operational, though some of the places where I drive have little to no cell phone signal. I check the weather carefully for several days in advance. I practice a lot of "what-if" scenarios. And since most of my highway driving is of necessity on somewhat less-well-maintained roads, I keep a keen eye out for places to stop.
So, if you see me sitting on the side of the road with blinkers on, I'd be happy for you to make note of my license plate number and call the authorities. If they are needed: thank you. If they are not needed, I can explain that to them as well as to anyone else, and I appreciate your concern. One only needs to think of names like Ted Bundy, one of the most attractive and innocent-looking serial killers to have ever lived, to be wary of anyone trying to be "helpful" in a roadside situation.
Great question, BTW!
20 years ago I would have stopped to help anyone.
Today you have risks that did not exist. If you stop and are alone, you risk a she said he said kind of incident. Not worth stopping.
I would still stop if I have my wife with me, but without a witness I would do nothing.
