Something to Think About

This is something that can happen to you.The following couldn't happen to a congressman or United States Senator. Most people are unaware of it, but for decades politicians have exempted current and future members from most of the laws they pass. Asset forfeiture, for one.If cops nail a senator peddling cocaine out of his Mercedes by a schoolyard, his car can't be seized but your car and even your house can be seized. As you read this do you feel under hypnosis? If you try to get a politician prosecutedfor drug dealing and a conviction but you couldn't seize his assets the way your car or house would be seized. His fellow politicians might just censor him or expel him from congress and, at the same time, arrange his immunity from prosecution. But you couldn't seize his assets for drug dealing or any other of the two hundred offenses for which they can seize yours.Politicians have their own retirement fund They pay no social security taxes. They rob social security to finance other programs.Their pensions are safe.Recent events have brought to light a deep distrust of congress by the American people.

They exempt themselves from health care plans they intend to force upon you, so that some day you'll have to wait months for things like gall bladder surgery, but they get the care they need on demand.Somehow, we've allowed ourselves to be ruled by the greediest and most envious among us.

While some congressmen have had their 'lovers' run prostitution rings out of their homes and nothing happens to them (they don't even get voted out of office) if an individual is even carrying what the state determines to be too much cash all of their assets can be seized and most likely there will be with no charges even filed, that drives up the cost and reduces the profits. If id doesn't feel like you just moved to a third world country wait until you are stopped for traveling a highway too often (they are monitored now by cameras which is illegal search) and suspected of something nefarious and then arrested on FISA charges and sent to prison while you await the possibility of being tried in a secret court. Most of the people who lived in terrible collectivist states, i.e. Russia, China, Nazi Germany to list the favorites but no means complete list, most of those people never felt threatened by the state because they never ran afoul of it. They believed that all was good and everything instated was for the good of all. The average citizen always excused the behavior of the state while protecting them and even if it did make a mistake it was an innocent mistake of the state and it was worth a small tragedy to know that everyone else was protected. The only difference between where Americans live now and any of these other collectivist states is a matter of degree, which is like comparing two serial killers and trying to determine which one is less evil.
One assumption that leads the few who would choose freedom astray is to believe that most people would not willingly choose either to be a slave or a slave master. When the choice is made for the slave violently most will resist. When it is offered as a choice; i.e. wouldn't you like free health care, welfare, schools etc., all you have to do is make others your slave and steal from them!! Almost no one resists the offer.

The ethics found in most current philosophies, professed or inferred, is horrid. Left is right, up is down, good is blue, green is west. Makes less sense than the Big Bang.

They feel they are 'Royalty' even though we don't recognize Royalty in America. My husband stopped a Texas State Representative who was driving recklessly and found to be intoxicated. He told my husband, 'You can't arrest me.' My husband said, 'You are right. But I did call your wife and she is on her way over here now to pick up your car and take you home. Good luck!'

Royalty, huh?The truth is that they are just common grifters. Especially the Clintons. A nastier couple of criminals have never graced the halls of government. They could steal your underwear while you were still wearing them and if you caught them they'd bribe you with the stash they've been accumulating since Arkansas.

The elite on the street, ruled by the great unwashed.

Some how we have to get through their thick perverted, bicameral skulls that it is a Privilege to serve us, BUT, they are Not privileged in doing so.

And of course congress has that special fund that, using your tax dollars, pays hush money to quash sexual harassment/abuse/assault charges.

Yet, we the people continue to reelect our representatives.

I concur with you that they should not be able to exempt themselves from laws, even if the laws are inherently unjust - as the seizure of assets that you mention.
Yet, ask a random person and they won't know nor care if Congress is exempt from the laws they pass.

They couch the seizure laws as helping to make illegal drug distribution less profitable, but they fail to inform that the law applies to all, including some poor schmuck who has bought some drug which he stored in his home, sold to him by a informant. He loses everything even though he proves he was set up. Even though he proves his innocence. Once seized, there is no provision for the return of the property. Not only is the house forfeit, but its contents as well..

It would help if Article V were read and some of this energy was directed at assisting the Convention of States call for amendments to the constitution. One possible out come could be laws passed by congress apply to everyone including the members that passed the law(s).

I've stated before that if I could afford to self-finance a campaign, I would run on one idea only: Forcing all government officials (and especially Congress) to live by the same laws they shove up our--I mean, down our throats.

Or, I could go all Montgomery Brewster. Would be interesting to see here in Indiana who would win: Braun, Donnelly, or None Of the Above.

These claims don't ring true. It doesn't make asset forfeiture and the other stuff acceptable. And I'm sure they would use their connections to avoid the effects of these things. But it doesn't ring true to me that they don't pay payroll taxes and that asset forfeiture doesn't apply to members of Congress. I would be interested in links to evidence.

Go to Google and type asset http://forfeiture.It's even worse than I portrayed. There is a shadow group that claims to be part of the FBI or ATF or whatever alphabet group is handy, that points out drug dealers. A large number of whom claim the drugs were planted. Interesting n'est pas?

        It must stop.
I wish we were heading into some perfect storm where Republicans have power making Democrats fear abuses of power while at the same time Republicans are feel like elements of the gov't are persecuting them. It could be a chance for bi-partisan reform, but as you say it's more likely they'll focus on protecting only politicians from abuses.

Depending on your age, there's a good chance I read it before you were born. I don't know why , but I picture you as a young fellow ( Under 40).

Thanks! I'm almost 47, but I've been "asleep" for the past 10 or 12 years, so I do feel about 10 years younger now, and more "youthful" by the hour.

I'd like to meet you. My "benefactor" and I will likely be visiting your area next January/February (he's turning 71).

We are "Atlas & the Egopriest." B^)

I'm fighting for a vision, they're knot. You see, I hold that irony is the flip side of the same coin: Justice. But there are those who fall afoul of the poet of the revolution. In other words, I didn't get degrees in linguistics and theater for nothing. Maybe instead of being merely the Patrick Henry of whatever political revolution anyone had in mind, I'll instead be the Cyrano d'Bergerac. And I'm good with a turn of a phrase, e.g., You must BE the Revolution or there IS no revolution!!

When I find myself in a bowl of subjective or word-twisting, ankle-biting pedantic spaghetti prepared by those unable to grasp what it means to think IN principle (not merely in a "relational" or "compartmentalized" way, but to see the poetry and principles of Galt in the reality of their lives, their motives, their thought processes, to listen to Scott Brick not Christopher (oh) Hurt (me!) and that insipid, hallmark pastiche of the Atlas Shrugged movies. Yech. --Then I must quickly cut myself free and move on! (i.e., It's ok, I'm gonna delete all this "slanderous" "libel" of others' slanderous and libelous behavior toward the Ayn Rand they think they're holding hostage to their hippielove). In a word, I'm arrogant but I'm not allowed to pronounce moral judgement (apparently, as I've been told, there's no room for ad hominem in the Gulch (now who are the Thought Police?)

Well, since I hate name calling I have refrained from doing so, but let me reply. As you know, "There will ever be greater and lesser than yourself." - Bernard Hermann . Marking other posts down you come off as an arrogant prick. Especially with the persons you are creating friction with. Two of the best. There are more to persons than intellect. Intellect without imagination is as fecund as the dessert.

All I have are the words people choose to fight with. I do not pretend to more knowledge than is available in the moment of those I've never met or are ever likely to meet. That being the fact, I cannot be offended by anything anyone chooses to post (I'm not in the picture and neither are they).

I will only note that I've received nothing but admonishment from those who've done nothing but repeat the sort of drivel I've read countless times before.

So call me a prick if you must and I'll take the epithet with pride -- because I'm "a prick with a purpose." What purpose can you ascribe to my detractors?

Call it virtue signaling if you must, but this honestly explains the way I, honest romantic revolutionary for reason in a world of suicidal insanity, think & feel, how I choose to SEE myself in an insipid "sea of stupidity" (now, recovering from a long academic road that began in symbolic logic. Well, I'm not going anywhere -- as long as I'm not in an urn. Our little village has the best Greek food including Athens. Anyone is welcome to stop by and say hello. This area, while very pleasant is not a buzzing center of intellectual thought, so it will be nice to talk to someone about other than sports and climate.
