The job of a journalist is to report facts, add context where necessary, and leave it to the consumer to decide what he thinks. In this video, James O’Keefe, founder and president of Project Veritas, explains why fewer and fewer people trust modern-day “journalism.”
Yes, and when their utopian dream comes true may all their wealth be confiscated and spread about "for the greater good". After all, "they didn't make that".
I recall the story about why productivity in Russia was so low,
the worker says- They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work.
Of course, they also had constant reminders of how false the narrative was, in the reality of their lives.
The progressives' narrative is much more insidious and to expose its falsehood takes rational thought which is purposely discouraged in US educational facilities.
" .. to expose its falsehood takes rational thought which is purposely discouraged in US educational facilities"
The second part- yes, we call it the long march by the soft-left thru the institutions.
The first part- yes, sort of.
Watch the youtubes of Milton Friedman demolishing the ratbags. Done with humor, grace, courtesy when appropriate, and above all - fast.
Read Scott Adams.
Rationality and logic are not the same.
An argument not using logic may be presented with success but if the construction was planned with care it is rational.
Let us use emotion when effective, there may be some here who would object ~ it is not ethical to use an emotional argument that would work in 10 secs when a logical argument taking 10 mins could be used. There are very good thinkers on this site but some of them are very severe.
If only our side was as good at presentation skills as at clear logical thinking.
Answer: Not as much as I'd like to sometimes.
I do need to spend more time productively instead. ;^)
be. Its not just the Russians. In a totolitarian government they can effectively suppress the opposition. Americans have been led into war at least twice that I can think of by "yellow journalism". col. McCormick and the Chi Tribune convinced the publick that Cuba torpedoed the battleship Maine in Havana harbor (actually a boiler exploded) but with "Remember the Maine!" we went to war with Spain. Lyndon Johnson used propaganda effectively to escalate the Viet Nam war with Gulf of Tonkin incident (NV torpedo boat detected on sonar turned out to be a farty whale.
Also the choice of words can change the entire meaning of a report (cf "When I look at you time stops" visavis "Your face would stop a clock."
I'd like to see Hillsdale Collage offer an on-line course on "The Role of the Press in a Free Society"
"...You can fool some of the people some of the time..."
But, other than clarifying the minds of some who are confused there is really nothing to be added or subtracted from the presentation.
We are not quite there yet.
Even more dumb then claiming that only white people can be racist or only men can be sexist.
