I Stand for the Flag but I Won't Stand for This

The administration argues that this absurd policy is more humane than the alternative, but using children as leverage to deter families fleeing three of the most dangerous countries in the world — El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras — is simply un-American. By the way, for migrants who are screened from these countries, high rates of asylum are granted based on credible fear. Now, those asylum-seekers have another fear: that the U.S. will do to their families what criminals and tyrants back home couldn’t manage.

Families claiming asylum have to undergo screening to make sure they're not drug mules or human traffickers delivering the children to sex rings for the American pedophile market. Both happen, according to the Border Patrol.

Illegal entry into America is a criminal act, according to U.S. law code. U.S. citizens detained for possible criminal acts don't get to have their children remain with them, so why do we have to offer that to persons who are not citizens?

Fleeing your country, seeking asylum, is not a license to settle in the country of your choice. Crossing through 2 or 3 countries that you could seek asylum in, bypassing the US embassy and nine consulates in Mexico to illegally cross into the US should disqualify any asylum seeker and/or their family. Period.

Maybe we could introduce a "tariff" on Mexico. Say maybe $50,000 for every illegal that came thru Mexico on their way here. If Mexico aint gonna help, then they should pay.

It seems to me, once these oppressed people leave "three of the most dangerous countries in the world - El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras - " and enter the safety of Mexico they no longer have to continue on to the United States. They have escaped their tormenting nations and have entered a country of similar culture and language and should simply apply for asylum in Mexico.

Also, shifting the terminology from "illegal alien" to "migrant" is pure BS. Sneaking into the country is 100% criminal. I understand it is a misdemeanor the first time and a felony the second time. When a citizen with children commits a felony and the authorities come for them and slap on the cuffs, the children are taken into protective custody until their fate is properly adjudicated as humanely as possible. The same should occur for the felons at our borders.

    BUILD THE WALL!!

If they have a legitimate claim for asylum, they need to come in through a port of entry, not jump across a fence or swim across the river.

4/5 of the kids arrived here alone (unaccompanied) or with a coyote and no parents - meaning the parents sold them into slavery or whatever. Sorry.. but I'm calling 'bullshit' on some of that.

Even on the CBS evening news last night, they tried to make a dramatic event over picking up a kid that had been in a foster family in Ohio for 8 months, flying them back to Honduras, and reuniting with the father - and the kid kind of seemed like he had no idea who the father was, or didn't want to be there at all. (Kid was like 6 or 7, so he wasn't an infant). "Dad" looked pretty young to have a kid that old - kind of like an 18 or 19 year old gang-banger to be honest. I think the kid was sold and dad was happy because he gets to sell him again.

These migrants should stay in their countries and make them better and safer. In any event, its not my duty to fix THEIR problems. Turn the people away at the border just like Canada and Australia do. We cant just take in anyone who wants to come here- its not the 1800's where we despertely needed residents. There are enough people here already to have a great country.

Term2 is not against all immigrants. Immigrants who want to be a part of our basic culture, and who have something to add to the country are certainly welcome. But taking in immigrants from places like somalia and syria and central america who have little talent and less skills- makes NO sense at all. We would be better off just not having them in the country.

People from horrible places (for instance, the Soviet Union) have come here and been good citizens, I believe. And as to being ignorant, once they got here and had opportunity, they managed to remedy that defect. No, I do not believe they should be allowed to just jump the fence. One thing that should be done is just to eliminate the welfare state, including for native-born citizens, and to have free enterprise here,
within the country. And even before that, just make foreign people who are not yet citizens ineligible for welfare benefits.

Emotional blackmail is spot on but the MSM is pushing this immigration/child deal to take the focus off the Inspector Generals hearings on Hillary's emails and the FBI. Those hearings were treated like a complete black out on most of the usual suspect alphabet news networks.

    I call BS ...
This is a totally manufactured issue.
Anyone who has ever traveled internationally has been "locked" in staging areas until they are processed through customs. If a person is suspected of criminal activity, they are SEPARATED from whoever they are traveling with and if those other people happen to be minors, they will be held under lock and key in a separate area until a determination can be made as to what needs to be done to keep them safe.

The children are NOT being housed in cages ....

Why don't these people stand up to the attrocities in their own country. Had our founders not done so, we would not have our country. They could have turned tail and ran. Sooner or later someone has to have the courage to save the place they live, or die. So many have done that for America. If this crap continues, we will not have a country.

When we will not have a country?? You mean we
still do?? I'm having difficulty recognizing the one
we now have as opposed to the America in

I can't disagree. We are still better than many other places, but not any where close to where we could or should be.

We used to be different than other countries, and proud of it. Now it appears we are trying to be like the other countries. I find that incredibly sad.

You may not know that most of the Founders of our Republic came from England, which had a revolution in 1688 to create a new constitution whereby Parliament chose the kling. The Bill of Rights of 1689 with the right to keep arms was also part of that. So, why let in any more Englanders after 1689? Just put up an Atlantic Wall and keep the continent for the Natives?

Another article explained this situation. The reason the families get separated is that there's a court decision limiting the amount of time children can be held in detention -- and it's shorter than the time adults have to be held for a decision to be made if the adult claims asylum.

The obvious and sensible solution, it seems to me, is to adopt this policy: "From now on, if you want asylum, you have to show up at an official port-of-entry and apply for it. If you cross the border anywhere else, you forfeit any ability to request asylum."

A little research shows the following....El Salvador president Sanchez Ceren.....Guatemala president Jimmy Morales....Honduras president Juan Orlando Hernandez....and for the grand finale Ninaragua president non other than Super Commie Daniel Ortega.
Trump should start charging tariffs on every "immigrant" from those countries. Say 50 or 100,000 dollars. subtract that total from the "aid" sent to those countries and use that money to pay for the new immigrants.
As a little exercise do a search on the names I listed above. Most of us are aware of the corruption in these countries. But this would bring home the reality that to stop all of this we are just gonna have to take these countries over.

      "take these countries over"
That's exactly the mistake the neocons have purposely made repeatedly in order to maintain the forever war that is so popular with big government statists and the war industry. It's how they destroy what remains of American liberty and ends free markets (reducing competition for the corporate looters.)
Much cheaper, more effective, and less state power just to build the wall and put troops on the southern border. Oh, and end the handouts and other socialist rubbish (including an end to corporate welfare.)

I'd say the Gulch dwellers have already paid for the land, but I'd definitely pay for the guarantee of liberty from federal interference.
As for the immigrants seeking asylum they should earn their place by working to create a successful free market territory while assimilating to American traditional culture as completely as possible. No one comes the rest of the way without learning English and demonstrating an understanding of respect for individual liberty, the evil of central government power, the importance of work ethic, and the danger of enslavement via government handouts.

To prevent risky journeys in small boats, Australia's green/left want to fly would-be migrants in, not the "smart, well-educated, industrious people" that our straightlinelogic speaks of. Instead, those from a certain 'central' part of the world with a reputation for successful manipulation of the welfare system.

By the same logic, any American Citizen parent who is accused of a crime should have the right to bring their children to jail with them. We split up American Families every day because we hold their parents accountable for their crime. Entering this country without permission is a crime. It is not our fault the families are separated, it is the fault of the parent who brought their children illegally across our boarder. In the very least, these parents should be placed in jail for endangering their children. They should instead apply for refuge status in a legal manner (embassy or port of entry).

What people don't seem to want to talk about is the harsh reality here. Under Obama we know that many children, after being separated from their parents, were fed into a foster system where our leaders allowed them to be disappeared into homes that weren't properly vetted. Who do you think would want a bunch of immigrant children separated from their parents and fed into such a system? Not good people.

I, personally, think that families should be kept together. But, I don't think people should be allowed to just enter our country at will. We're giving away the farm.

No American has to stand for this, they can contact the proper agencies and declare their intent to be responsible for the number of these kids they can qualify for, simply agree in writing to finance the kids for their - and their chain migrated family members for life. The ones with no kin to be found can be outright adopted. Outraged? Practice what you preach before telling me what I must do.

Trump news today - start of the Draining of the Swamp - Mulvaney was showcasing plans to collapse duplication between departments... Example he gave, if a hotdog is in the original package, or sold as just the "dog" - it's under USDA's regime. If you put it in a bun, it's FDA. Whoever sells the hotdog has to deal with both of them. Move the USDA Rural Home Loan program over to the FHA - they know what they are doing (but I fear they may rob resources for rural communities to do more "low income housing" in urban areas), the USDA Rural Broadband grant program is probably better off in Commerce.. and the SNAP program (also USDA) could easily be done by HHS.. Then take the "food" inspection away from FDA, let them focus on pharmaceuticals, and have USDA work with all types of food (they do that better) - there.. we just got rid of 40,000 USDA jobs.

It's not a simple as you think. Follow this; Children kept with their illegal family cannot be put in adult jail nor can the adults in the family be put in children's jail.Since there are n viable places to put them, the only alternative is to let them go. It is a "Get out of jail free" card. Trump hatred has gone too far this time. In 2014 Obama was implementing the same policy without a whisper or whimper from the Drive-By Media. If Obama does it, it's OK, but if Trump does the very same it is evil.

There was such a problem in the Gulch. Gulchers had a "wall" of a sort. Dagny was permitted to stay ... only for a while while her case was being processed and only because she had merit.

Dagny's case was different in that she entered The Gulch, accidentally, not surreptitiously. Also, John took total responsibility for her, while she was in The Gulch, so that she would not be an undesired burden on others.

Now, if the bleeding hearts liberals wish to extend welcome to all these undocumented (illegal) aliens...let THEM pay for ALL of the expenses, including reparations for any crimes committed by their "guests".

As for true asylum seekers...let them have their day in court, though I would consider a different source of financial support other than the taxpayers of our country. Are we giving any financial aid to Guatemala or Honduras? Hold it back to pay for their fleeing citizenry.

I'll bet that if we threatened to withhold monies from some of our other "friends" out there...they would offer to send some folks to help "regulate" the flow of these asylum seekers.

        Oh...BAD Randy, BAD Randy...

What galls me is all the faux outrage - especially from those on the left. This had been happening for years under Obama (and Bush II before that) but no one on the left was willing to let out a peep because it was their party in power at the time.

Here's the real problem: a Congress unwilling to simply set strong immigration policy (or do anything really). They haven't been willing to do anything about it since Reagan except ignore enforcement in order to swell the ranks of illegals in this nation. And why? Because they like the cheap labor and a dependence on a voting bloc that savors handouts - which means political power.

My biggest gripe is that Congress wants to have the perks that come with elected office, but not have to do its job under the Constitution to actually make law. Many (especially in the Democratic Party) want to just sit there and be able to criticize without any responsibility for action, where the original Constitutional mandate was for Congress - not the Executive Branch and certainly not the Judicial Branch - was supposed to have the most power.

Heard this afternoon that The Donald signed an executive order that families of incoming illegals won't be separated anymore.
Me a really mean nasty dino thinks this is lollipops and popsickles because keeping an illegally entering family together should make easier to send them away all at the same time.
It should even be more cost effective.

It's a dark comedy, like something from Brazil.

Treating this kids humanely should be easy for an advanced society. President Trump uses them for political points. Trump's political opponents start licking their chops at using these refugees to make Trump look bad. It's a dark comedy becauses it exposes how leaders put their careers ahead of solving problems. The really dark part is a bunch of citizens not involved in politics take up the cause of helping politicians discredit one another, sometimes contorting themselves into defending locking up children. It's a misanthropic dark comedy that requires suspension of disbelief. I can understand what Melania might have meant by wearing the I-don't-care jacket. If I were married to someone in that industry, I'd have an urge to say, "Don't look at me for material to make one another look bad. I'm married to this goat rodeo but not taking part in it."
