What is an Individualist?

I've been doing some research and came across this quote. I believe it is extremely important, as many people misunderstand, misuse, and misapply the concepts of individualism and selfishness.
"Do not make the mistake of the ignorant who think that an individualist is a man who says: “I’ll do as I please at everybody else’s expense.” An individualist is a man who recognizes the inalienable individual rights of man—his own and those of others.
An individualist is a man who says: “I will not run anyone’s life—nor let anyone run mine. I will not rule nor be ruled. I will not be a master nor a slave. I will not sacrifice myself to anyone—nor sacrifice anyone to myself.”
-Ayn Rand

- 1Posted by TylerNewsome 11 years, 1 month agoIt goes right back to the myth that Ayn Rand hated the poor. She hated the thieving poor. Those who took the results of our production by force or by tears. There is nothing wrong with helping others-if done so in regards to your own happiness. But it is immoral to be forced to be responsible for everyone else's survival.Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|
