The fact is that Cochran lost the original primary vote, but McDaniel didn't cross the 50% mark. Then Cochran only surpassed McDaniel in the run-off by enticing Dems to vote for him (illegally, if they had already voted in the Dem primary, which records indicate a significant number of them did do).

If Cochran had any integrity, he'd accept that he lost and would step aside. He doesn't even expect to finish this term, but will instead resign mid-term so that the gov can appoint an establishment candidate who will then be the incumbent for the next election cycle. Scummy.

  Two points:
  
  1) Enticing democrats to vote for you is fair game. However, if you entice them by saying the opponent is a racist who is associated with the Klan, then expect to reap what you sow.
  
  2) The probable appointee is rumored to be Haley Barbour's son.

    Point one - In MS it is not permitted had they previously voted in the Dem primary. Those are the votes that are being contested. The article identifies that the counties are preventing the disclosure of the first primary books, evidently so that this comparison cannot be conducted and votes invalidated.
