    Rand sure had a handle on the truth. The sole goal of all socialists is control via the equitable distribution of misery amongst the non-elite.

      J-1R1776 ... So simple and straightforward a concept but it falls on humans raised and bombarded with the superstitious propaganda that without the main purpose of life being to sacrifice your life for others, you are a waste product that should die. The tough nut in this B S lies in deciding who the "deserving??" others are....who decides??? Charles Darwin knew. and told those who listen....

          I was born in 1940, so Iwent through, not with, the hippie scare of the 60's. they hated America as much as the present socialist/libs do but realized they could never take America over through force or military action. So they did what their heroes, Lenin and marx taught, Take over the education system and in 3 generations the victims will come to you and ask to be educated your way.. IT Worked with no guns or shots being fired.. No we have adults living on childish wants, superstitions and falsehoods that have no reality training.nor practical lessons.I want, I want has more respect than I think... emotion based reality governs...NO THINKING REQUIRED.

            Well said roneida. Three years after you were born Ayn Rand published The Fountainhead. It contained Ellswoth Tooheys speech "How to rule Souls" which begins

            Sadly her fiction has become our reality. Philosophies have consequences. Inculcating one into a society requires patience and tenacity. The Collectivists have done their insidious best over the past hundred and twenty years and have succeeded. I have no idea what it will take to re-introduce Reason and Logic and Objectivism into America nor how much time it will require.

        Boring into the brain through teachers, parents, church, and the general population, the concept of altruism and self-sacrifice, is touted a that which is to be greatly admired. Books, novel, TV, Movies, are all telling everyone that whatever you are, you should happy to immolate yourself for the benefit of others. It's a wonder that anyone rises up from the mire caused by this prevailing attitude.

    This reminds me of a conversation I had very late last night. I told a life-long friend of mine that there are two books she should read: Atlas Shrugged and The Stones Cry Out (about a Cambodian Childhood).

    Written by somebody who was a child at the time - Stones repeatedly has stories of kids being forced to work all day to build a road with a little shovel and bucket while constantly being told they "need to sacrifice for the betterment of others" as they slowly starve to death. Life-changing book for me.

        Excellent. When I read it I remember putting it down after the first chapter and really thinking about whether or not I wanted to pick it back up. I knew it would take me to dark places. Wasn't it Nietzche who said that when you stare into the abyss it stares back into you? I was really moved by this book, by how it was written. So much so that I found the author and connected with her. Not to spoil it but in the story there is a little girl who's basically abandoned to starve (her family was all dead and the village tossed her aside). She ended up surviving and I even got to ask the author about her and pass on a note from me. Pretty incredible stuff...Collectivism repeatedly brings modern humanity to its very darkest places.
