The ACLU plunges into "grassroots activism" with "Freedom Cities" campaign

A few highlights from the article:

"According to an ACLU strategy memo, the group is pushing local authorities to force the federal agencies focused on immigration enforcement to jump through a set of legal hoops that will 'impede objectionable policies the president is pursuing.'”

And a former Harry Reid aide is leading the charge:

"Shakir came to the ACLU after spending nearly four years in the office of former Democratic Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. In a brief conversation with Yahoo News, Reid, who retired this year after three decades in Washington, praised Shakir as “'superb.'”

"'People have known us for, ‘See you in court,’” Shakir said in the 'Freedom Cities' memo. “I hope now they’ll also know us for, ‘See you in the streets.’”

Founded by socialists & communists and today populated by leftists and useful idiots. As evident by the turmoil across America today, the left thought it finally attained their long sought and schemed for goals and are now rabidly angry that their delusions have been slowed and reversed.

You can't expect anything remotely resembling America from the aclu (I'll never capitalize them).

Roger Baldwin "We are for SOCIALISM, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself... We seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the SOLE CONTROL of those who produce wealth. COMMUNISM is the goal.”

William Z. Foster - chairman of the communist party USA

Coming to a complete understanding of the thought processes behind the 'all & everything' goals of groups such as aclu, isis, socialism, communism, etc., escapes me. (that might mean I'm a Patriotic American & just can't think the way 'they' do) At this point they & others are succeeding, over time, at stamping out the 'live & let live' philosophy. They didn't start this crusade just last week, it's been going on for decades & generations & at the rate of their progression they are winning this battle & WTP are giving away our freedoms & rights

Large segments of the world have already firmly established tenets of restricted freedom & lifestyle for the constituent class, why then must they stampede & slither into a country that is essentially the last bastion of freedom in the world for the sole purpose of stamping said freedom out & replacing it with servitude to the 'Nobel' class aka 'political' class, the rulers so to speak?

Most of them WTP have put in positions of power & allowed them to stay far longer than common sense would suggest, TERM LIMITS, would go a long way toward resolving that issue.

Why aren't more of the WTP 'class' (enemy of the political) shouting down the liars that drown out every whisper of truth? I wonder why & wonder... just what are WTP afraid of??? Isn't it written somewhere '...government of the people, by the people & for the people...' ? Why then are WTP listening to blowhards that tell us what 'their' agenda is & WTP can take it or leave it...? Just wondering...

    The article has two points.
    1. The ACLU is focusing on the president's initiative to work with local gov't on immigration enforcement.
    2. The ACLU usually lobbies and litigates, but now it's also encouraging grassroots activism.
Regarding #1, here is what the article says the ACLU wants:
These proposed requirements include making U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection officials obtain a judicial warrant before asking local officials to detain anyone, blocking those officials from accessing people in local custody for “interviews or other investigative purposes,” preventing federal agents from asking local officials about someone’s immigration status, and blocking surveillance or interrogations based on profiling.

I don't understand the Constitutional issues involved. I'm glad they're fighting for Constitutional limits, and I don't care if it's through litigation or activism. The bad thing is if the Constitutional objections are just a fig leaf covering their desired policy of looking the other way from illegal immigration. The article says the ACLU answers this objection by pointing to their defense of Milo Yiannopoulos. A stronger answer to this objection would be if the ACLU were to offer a set of recommended tools for the gov't that would allow the gov't to enforce immigration law within the limits of the Constitution.
