Stevens' killing was America's wake-up call from the stupor of empire and arrogance. Are you ready for the republic which you have not known in your lifetime? Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson, who understands America's borders do not extend through Libya (or Iraq -- but unfortunately believes in the State's myth that Afghanistan is behind 9/11), is a step in the right direction.

I wish the Libertarian Party would quit going around saying it's the U.S.'s fault because it is not a great political stance and focus on the issues of defense they can get a common foothold with. For instance, it's 60 yeas since the last world war. Why do we maintain bases in Korea, Germany, Japan, UK etc. The defense budget has become nothing more than an alternative welfare budget. Hanging around forever in other people's countries of course causes resentment. We need to be much more intelligent about how we do that. In Afghanistan, it might have helped if we imposed a Constitution-we fight a war, we win, and we don't have enough belief in our own values to insist in freedom of religion and freedom of speech. that's insane.

Unconstitutional wars, wars based on false flag events are acceptable as long as we win?

That is not what Khalling said, I think he/she is stating that we could have imposed a constitutional war, declared by congress and then done much like we did at the end of World War II.

"she" agrees the war should have been constitutional-I believe we had a right to act, and once we win, we will set up a Constitution upholding specific individual natural rights. No argument allowed. How's that for arrogant? :). You cannot IMPOSE freedom on a people. By definition, freedom is the lack of imposition. Bush may have won the Iraq war in three months, but he failed to secure the peace, primarily because we did not demand certain rights for the citizens in deference to fundamentalist Islam. After WWII, we demanded fundamental guidelines for the way the occupied countries were restructured. In Iraq and Afghanistan, Bush followed the typical top/down military socialist format to move the countries forward.

Well said, and while unrelated thanks for the comment on the Barbary Pirates. It gave me a piece of history I was unfamiliar with to read about that peeked my interests

I see the Barbary Pirate situation on point. In drawing lines for engaging warfare, should it be limited to geographical boundries in terms of defense as Wesley would like. We need to define "protecting our interests" clearly. I submit that other countries harboring despots or terror organizations that commit acts or train their people to commit acts of terror against the US will be dealt with decisively. Barbary Pirates is the first such US action completely dealt with abroad.

I could not agree more. I do think we need to close down many of our bases outside the US but not all. We did not cause people to hate the US; they made that choice. Its about the same thing as Obama's apology tour where he said how bad America has been but did not use the words I am sorry, or I apologize. Its still an apology tour.

The US is the only country I know of that ever captured large areas of land and gave them back to the owners. We should be proud of that. We then invested heavily in those same areas to get them back to a productive state and keep the ideas of communism out. Not so sure we should be proud of that.

There was a time we needed many bases to protect ourselves that time is past and we should close many of the bases, especially when we running deficits to keep them open.

Positioned this way I would agree with it, but the way it is typically positioned is just wrong.

I am curious about the Afghanistan thing. What are your thoughts about 9/11. Of course there are so many theories there is no way to know what's real and what's not, but I have noticed that opium production has risen every year in Afghanistan since the war started there after 9/11.

The Taliban all but eradicated the opium fields when they took over. Considering the fact that opium/heroin was the lubricant that kept the planet's financial motor from seizing, the Taliban had to be reversed. Those behind 9/11 came up with a simple-minded plot to do so, and (so far) got away with it, because we had a simple-minded public. I see little sign the public is less simple-minded today, do you?

Given the agenda our President lives by; we shall expect nothing more from him regarding upholding America's founding values. If the people have awaken from the stupor derived from the peace kool aid drunk in the sixties, the complacency of America's soft bedding; perhaps the truth of oppression staring at them will give them cause to act before it is too late. Obama believes the people are too enamored with him to notice his stories changing by the hour or the lies given out as rapid as gun fire; and he assumes the rest too fearful to stand up for liberty, too stupid to notice the wolves circling the camp. If a patriot believes in America, his duty is serving its principles and Constitution, anything less and you deserve neither liberty or freedom.

President Obama needs a better propaganda minister… He can’t keep his story straight.

From the first coverage I remember being chilled about the security team member who posted on a gaming site his fears regarding supposed security taking pictures of the inside of the compound. The way he said it, about "if we don't die in the next few hours..." He knew they were cut off by the State Department. Besides the terrorists who committed these murders, I believe people from within our own government should go to prison for not taking action. Unfortunately, charging someone with Treason or Impeachment doesn't seem strong enough punishment.

Anyone in their right mind watching those events from a drone would know that it was a terroist attack. But it goes to show how involved the President is with public relation handlers. Also, how involved 60 Minutes was in toeing the party line that got behind that public relations clean up of the incident. That is probably the worst part of it because they chose to use the political cut of the interview instead of the terror clarification.

I wondered what others would get out of this article, I am glad to see we pulled some of the same thoughts. I was disgusted with 60 minutes over there support of the spin rather than there reporting of the facts.
