This is just another example of how the corrupt play the game.
And I just heard that Chelsea is getting up to $75k for a speech. What in heavens name could she have to say that would be worth that amount of money? That's more than the median family income for a year, and she's getting that for one hour long speech?
I've said this before, if the client believes that they are getting value for value, then I have no problem with it. In this case, one has to really wonder what is really the value being received. It certainly isn't anything that this failure in life has to say. And since that must not be it, then what is it really?
This is consistent with my image of her and Bill as master politicians. I think they do a lot of good in the world, but they certainly know how to be politicians. In the 2008 election, I wanted Obama to win the nomination, and my wife wanted Clinton. I said Obama appears to mean what he says while Clinton appears to be a ruthless politician. My wife has lived in DC, and she said, "Washington will change him more than he changes Washington. Clinton is a master at the Washington political game and knows how to execute." I don't know what would have happened if Clinton were president; I wish we could re-wind history and find out if there would be fewer drone strikes, a faster path to shorter prison sentences, less spying on Americans, closed Guantanamo and network of other secret prisons abroad, reduced poverty, reduced military, and so on. Maybe she's right that Clinton is a better politician, but I don't know if it would mean she would accomplish things like that. I can't judge someone based on limited info, but I just get such a strong ruthless-politician vibe from Hilary Clinton.
When Dick Morris wrote about the amount that the Clintons spent on travel, it seemed small compared to the Obamas, but it did remind me of a forgotten scandal of the Clintons: Travelgate!

I couldn't resist!
