119 year old cigar company in FDA's crosshairs

So, a company is profitable, has 130 employees, and sells a unique product. Time to put the screws to it. Because they can't classify it as luxury, because the cigars are $10.00 and under, and they use antique machines in rolling the cigars, so it's not "handmade", the FDA is looking to regulate them like a cigarette. They're not cigarettes!
It's just one more insidious way of over regulating something to the point of extinction.

P.S. Eudaimonia, this made me think of you. Do you sell these at the cigar shop? If so, I say we smoke a few for the CT gulcher's farewell party. :-)

    Yes, we do.
    We sell these JCN brands.
    Julius Caesar
    Diamond Crown
    Maximus

The article doesn't say what the Feds are going to do, but it will probably be a per stick sin tax.

Of course, the argument is bogus.
You can't pick up high quality cigars at a 7-11.
You usually have to go to a high end shop.
Not the type of place kids try to get tobacco at.

That's so true. I've never seen teenagers in a high end shop before. It's not what they're looking for. People make their own choices every day about what they like and want to have. Except those choices are getting stripped away, "for our own good". Ugh.

That's really too bad. While I hate smoking as a habit (cigarettes) I still like me a good cigar about once or twice per year. I don't see how anybody could make sense of this regulation. It just smacks of war against production.

How frustrating is this. They are not part of a horse and buggy industry that is simply phased out by market demand or lack of it. This is a clear case of government forcing a business out simply because they dictate it so. They have survived wars, depressions and every kind of market downturn history has thrown at them. The Obama administration may do what they couldn't. Chilling.

Hmm. Using the mentality of the Fed, I guess they, in their collective wisdom, have determined the 119 year old company isn't sustainable and therefore, they will somehow, find a way to force them out of business. Go figure.
