Some good advice on how to deal with MS latest attempt to rule your life and PC. Lots of stories of how people actually lost money and work because of MS and what THEY want to do. I plan on turning it off.

You can reduce your vulnerability to malware by not using the administrator account for routine use.

That is very good sage advice, it will stop executables by revoking permission. For me it gets painful, however I also have full disconnected backups. I will slag my system in a heartbeat if needed.

Also avoid Internet Explorer. For a browser use something like firefox, and where you can tor.

Firefox still performs the best, and it can be annoying, like when they disable your Flash because it became vulnerable, but the work they do is far superior to MS, who are lazy, corporate slobs (IMHO). There are not a lot of complaints I have seen of compromised Firefox user, vs the innumerable IE issues. I also have found issues with IE (that is my companies standard) where it can't even work correctly internally with web sites. Yuck.

Use of Adobe flash has been subjected to manual confirmation in firefox because of the severe security vulnerabilities in flash, despite the continual patches. It is being phased out and replaced by other browser mechanisms. You can also use Opera as a backup for sites that won't display properly in firefox.

Well, my experience with FF seems that if you do their upgrade to the version they say is "best" all the issues go away. It seems to be a setting they use to trigger the turn it off, Opera will not function within my company, we have a hard enough time using FF.
