This Long Run Won’t Be Long Enough, by Robert Gore

The genesis of the burgeoning political revolt is the realization that the business-government nexus is not functioning as advertised and is contrary to the interests of the people subjected to it. Much of what the ruling class has done has failed, and failed spectacularly, especially when measured against the hype that promotes it. Hubristic delusion has prevented much of the elite from recognizing either their failures or shattering credibility. They are falling in line for Hillary Clinton, but here too they delude themselves.

Sounds like Gary Johnson would get the blame if he was miraculously chosen to reside in the White House.
Guess we should be careful what we wish for.

To some extent, I'm not sure it matters who get in. We just might be on the point of no return. Sure would like to see Johnson get to try though.

Agree with that. At this point, I think the plunger has been lifted and the flush has begun.

Could it have been stopped? Perhaps. But that would have required a political and unity we haven't seen in this country since WW II and aren't likely to see again - especially with our current Commander-in-Chief and his party stirring up every possible race- and other-based division. I sure don't see either Hillary or Donald doing anything to turn the ship around.

Just like Venezuela is beyond the point of no return, so is the USA. We just have farther to fall than Venezuela did, but the end game will be the same. The speed of the fall can be adjusted somewhat by who gets in as president and which parties are dominant in the congress.

I think Trump will slow it down; Hillary will accelerate it; and Sanders would have REALLY accelerated it (and he nearly got to be the democratic candidate !!). I hope Hillary is defeated, which is why I am voting for Trump. At least he isnt in the establishment at this point. He has all the money he could ever need, has a great family, a great business- and really doesnt need the hassles of being president. I think he and his family are primarily interested in seeing the USA prosper again.

Sometimes, however, you just have to pull the bandaid off. Prolonging the pain is stupid. Get it over with so healing can begin and we can start putting together our country again.

The analogy that would be persuasive is not in slowing the decline, but in preventing a takeover by the feudalists (the elites who want to go back to a serf/lord governing system). That is how you're going to win people over to voting for Trump.

Our nation has achieved a false economic leap fueled by debt. It's like a kid on a wagon who goes down a hill to gain speed and hit a jump. He's in mid-air when he suddenly realizes that there's no way he's going to land the wagon and himself in one piece because of the rocks below. But because we've already made the jump (ignoring our mother's warnings that it wasn't going to end well), there's nothing to do now but take the fall and hope there's enough left to bandage up and limp home.

I have contemplated the "fall", but we have gotten very used to a society that at least functions to a substantial degree. I can go to stores and buy things I need. I dont have to farm for my food. I can live in a decent house with heat in the winter if I want. I can profitably operate at least some businesses under the radar and have a good life.

Taking the fall will mean a lot of pain and suffering until its "rebuilt". And do we think that if there is a 'fall' all of a sudden people will realize a free market is best? I would suggest that entitlement would result in rioting and demands for the government to "do something" (which means taking what little is left from the ones who prepared and give it to the unwashed masses).

Look at Venezuela. There is a society crashing by the day, yet they are still supporting the socialism system and their absolutely STUPID leader. I fear that will happen here. Fortunately, I doubt I will be around to witness the collapse that will finally come in about 30-40 years after the government has used up the wealth of the country.

Well, a true libertarian would reduce the size and power of the government. A true libertarian would forbid government deficit spending. A true libertarian would get rid of the federal reserve and put us back on the gold standard.

That means the establishment would be cut down to size- their crony ways of operating would be severely limited.

Therefore a true libertarian would be under heavy attack. Look at the attacks on Trump, and he isnt even a libertarian and isnt president- at least yet.

Yes, Johnson is now getting the same treatment from the media, albeit less convincing since Trump's persona is so completely repulsive.

you really dislike Trump, I can tell. I wonder what it is that you find so repulsive? I wonder what you would say about Hillary. Talk about deplorable...

Johnson is getting negativity to the extent that he is a threat to the establishment.

Both Hitlery and Trump are repulsive. But one has earned a derisive nickname, too ;^) Neither can be trusted to serve the sovereign people, support the constitution. Both use government for personal gain. Neither is ethical. Neither is honest. There are ample reasons see trump as repulsive.

I understand that the guy in charge gets the blame. I think the problems the country has have been generated over a very long time, primarily by the Congress who have been acting like eunuch's rather than statesman ever since they established the Federal Reserve and gave up control of just about everything that Constitution says they ought of be doing.
Electing Trump won't fix that but it may start the ball rolling to break up the "good ole boy" club. No one else has the guts to even try.

"Johnson would get the blame [for a financial crisis]"
That's true and ironic since he is the only candidate who openly talks about the problem described in this article. Johnson has said plainly our fiscal and monetary policies are unsustainable and will eventually lead to a crisis.

"In the long run we are all dead."?
We start to die the moment we're born. Do the left true believers recognize the failures? Point them out to a hard left person and you'll get more straw dogs thrown at you than a stadium full of scarecrows.

Part of the reason it won't be stopped is 98% of the population want to believe it will some how work and prefer being indebted slaves to being responsible freemen. We are far beyond being able to stop or reverse the direction. It is like Gulliver being tied down by millions of threads while believing that if we cut one or two while another thousand are being applied we will some how change direction and return to being free. Too much is in place to maintain people as slaves and the slaves are willing participants.

I think you are correct. If people accept the rules and consent to the contract because it is convenient or for an appearance of safety, we are consenting to indenture as servants, and giving up the rights of free men.
Women have given in to this for centuries, and having entitled women with the priviledge of voting without women having proven the understanding of the benefits of liberty over safety has doomed the liberty of Americans. At present men understand and place a higher value on individual liberty and personal responsibility, while women mistakenly place a higher value on safety. This makes women unable to make the decisions necessary for freedom. Obvioulsly, this is a generalization that is not true in all cases, but based on actions, I think it is true. Universal suffrage is a fatal mistake that will result in the sacrifice of individual liberty for "the greater good" as defined by the fearful majority, as they are manipulated by the sociopathic, statist elite. (This is my politically incorrect conclusion, perhaps not yours.)

That's what happens when we hire the "Unconscious". They clearly lack the ability to review their behaviors and the consequences of those behaviors and actions.

Still too much class mentality for me. There are only individuals with a continuum of beliefs for most issues. Classes, like ruling class and middle class are just arbitrary classifications of individuals. You are not going to get anywhere with that if you want a free country. Creating artificial factions will not end with liberty but with ruling haves against have-nots.

people who are paid via funds confiscated from the population function on the basis of keeping everyone in a state of turmoil. I do not know when it all started but my guess is when we had the news that we have antitrust laws. keep everyone agitated so the long run will never end
