“If we are worried about the danger, then I would send the military across the border, work with their military bilaterally and get the job done,” said Arpaio. “That’s what I would do and we’d clean up this mess.”
Arapio isn't talking about a US invasion of Mexico OR military occpation for those who refuse to read the article. Unfortunately, Mexico is making billions of US dollars from the illegal aliens (which is why they condone and even encourage unlawful illegal migration) and will not likely be in agreement to cooperate.
Never going to happen as long as O is our president. We can expect more incursions of the Mexican military over our border without any objections from O though...
Use the U.S. military to enforce U.S. laws in Mexico? Ha! Good luck with that.
Arpaio is basically saying that the Mexican government should agree to voluntary military occupation by the U.S. government. That's never going to happen. Besides, military units should never be used as law enforcement anyway. Anyone who thinks that's a good idea is a fool. Trying to do it in a foreign country would be even worse. The inevitable result would be a war with Mexico.
It's happening all over the world. That's what we are doing in Afghanistan and it's what we did in Iraq. Our military is deployed all around the globe in an attempt to keep peace and protect the sovereignty of other nations. Why not here. Drug cartels operate at will because of the incompetence of the Mexican Government. We have every right to defend our border.
Arapio isn't prone to making idle speculation. His history of working with and heading the DEA in Mexico speaks volumes for the feasibility of his idea.
Yes, and the U.S. military occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan are both categorized as wars. To do the same thing in Mexico would mean starting a war with Mexico. Sure, we can defend the border, but starting a military occupation of the country on the other side of that border is incredibly foolish.
And the drug cartels would cease to be an issue if drugs were legalized.
Good point about the drugs Maph. The war on drugs has been disasterous. I doubt that Mexico would enter into a war with us. They would lose-and it would be ugly. They have a corrupt government worse than ours and we could put pressure on them to help with the border.
The amount of US dollars going into Mexico from illegal immigration is the largest industry in that nation ($21 billion in 2013).: larger than coal, oil, diamonds, tourism, and drugs.
