Political Correctness is the bane of our society. It is the cleverest form of censorship ever devised. Oldman went over the top in order to illustrate his point, but I cannot disagree with anything he said. What he is talking about is the selective use of PC by Hollywood and the left in general. There is no such thing as bad words within themselves. It is the word's usage that makes them bad. But Hollywood and other lefties add who says the words no matter what the context to whether it is PC or not. Additionally, it is unfortunate that many of them are only semi-literate, as when the perfectly good word "niggardly" was deemed racist. Or a better illustration is the word bitch. It only refers to a female dog. My beagle is a bitch. That doesn't make her a bad dog, only a female. Its "badness" derives from the phrase "son of a bitch" an insult calling a man the son of a dog. Frankly, I'd take this as a compliment, since most dogs I have met are nicer than many persons I have met.
An amazing talent. First class actor, tackling a wide range of roles over a long career. He's earned his chops. Liked him in his portrayal of Beethoven in "Immortal Beloved".
And, yes, the philosophy of PC is hypocritical as you can say things I cannot while you can say anything simply because you have the imprimatur of being on the 'correct' side of the political spectrum.
Yes. I'm not sure that I would agree with him on a lot of issues, but at least he has the hairy balls to speak his mind and speak up for others to speak theirs as well.
I'm with you on that one! He's an excellent actor and one of my faves to watch. :) I have enjoyed the majority of the movies he's been in. I loved reading his interview and absolutely agree with him on the PC crap. PC is everywhere and is a new form of slavery! I loved what he said!
PC masks the honesty in an interaction. When an expression is deemed unacceptable, that does not prevent (and likely festers) the thought or the attitude. So we might all be supporting bigots unknowingly, by doing business them, instead of voluntary boycotting them as we would in an "honest" world.
From the article, "The most explosive part of the interview includes attacks on Maher, Stewart and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, following his declaration that political correctness is “crap.” It appears this publication also plays the PC game.
You can hear rage and profanities ad nauseam coming out of Chris Matthews, Al "Not God Bless America, G** D*** America!" Sharpton, Ed Shultz, and Joe Scarborough. Pelosi referring to the grass roots movements as "astroturf", which if you look closer comes from her involvement in political astroturfing herself. Harry Reid labeling U.S. citizens "domestic terrorists." And it is true that Maher and Stewart can say pretty much anything they want without percussion from the lefties and the FCC.
I for one am happy to know that we have people as strong as Gary Oldman, Gary Sinise, and Jon Voight who aren't afraid to voice their opinions.
I loved the interview, I'd rather EVERYONE not be PC and state their views-be them views I don't agree with or I do agree with- At least we can get an idea where everyone is coming from.. I actually thought the same thing about '12 years a slave', I though it was 'ok'.. and wasn't in the same stratosphere of 'The Color Purple' and I'm a minority of Dominican decent born in NYC.. too many people-particularly minorities get away with saying whatever they fucking want-the reverse racism is so blatant its sickening- but if a Caucasian says something similar- OMFG he is a RACISIT!!
And, yes, the philosophy of PC is hypocritical as you can say things I cannot while you can say anything simply because you have the imprimatur of being on the 'correct' side of the political spectrum.
This is just icing on the cake for me.
I loved what he said!
So sad that people cannot understand illustration instead of intent. And too bad that GO felt the need to apologize.
