"Isolation is not the road to utopia. It should be the road to realism."

We need to understand and accept that there are reasons why the location in the world that civilization supposedly began and flourished before even the Greeks failed so miserably in moving into the modern world. Leave them to their misery and let them pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.

Keep our ICBM's pointed at them, keep our Naval forces in range, let them know that if they ever dare to threaten the shores of this country that we'll destroy them - all of that, yes. But when you hear a rattlesnake brrrr in the weeds, you walk around it - you don't go digging through the weeds.

And take all the savings in lives and lower debt to develop profitable alternatives to the addiction to Mideast oil.
Once oil was the catalyst to progress but the economic stranglehold of the oil cartel (both mideast and western) has choked advancement for too long.

        No.

Thanks for the incentive to get back to work on "Roarke's Drift".

...take the savings in lives and lower debt to develop domestic reserves of OIL, and to design and construct fleets of tanker ships to start scaling in petrochemicals from Titan, some of which I'm confident we've never even dreamed of here on Earth.

Those are the drones we need; huge unmanned ships to move resources around the solar system, to establish coaling stations in various orbits around the sun for easier trans-system travel.

"But when you hear a rattlesnake brrrr in the weeds, you walk around it - you don't go digging through the weeds. "

Unless you're armed with a shotgun, and/or are out hunting rattlesnakes.

Because, so long as the rattlesnakes live, somebody's going to get bit. And if you let the rattlesnake live, anyone getting bit after that is your fault.

The real war is over ideas. However, the analogy to war misdirects any thinking on this problem. A culture of reality and reason is the only foundation for peace and prosperity. Efforts to extend the Enlightenment by trade and commerce, via cinema, music, and education, are not dramatic and sudden, but they are all that has ever worked.

The current horrors in Iraq are a culmination of the so-called "Arab Spring" in which undemocratic mobs from different Islamic sects were painted as activists for freedom, which they never were or could ever be.

Didn't the democratic Athenians vote for Socrates to drink the hemlock?

A culture of reality and reason IS the only foundation for peace and prosperity. The problem is, you confuse an Objectivist ideal with REALITY.

Reality is a punch in the nose, not a well-researched argument.
