What are they going to do about Uber? This is a perfect example of the conflict between freedom and government. Can I pay you for giving me a ride? For concocting a headache remedy? For designing a home? For cutting my hair? For watching my home while I am on the road?

    --------------------
    ABOUT TARA

TARA is responsible for the administration of electric and gas utility franchises, the licensing of telecommunications services that use the rights-of-way, and several community media programs. TARA also registers and monitors local credit access businesses.

    TARA is also responsible for:

Staffing and advising the Austin Community Technology and Telecommunications Commission, which has advisory authority to the Austin City Council in all matters related to community technology, telecommunications and cable television
Advising the City Council Emerging Technology and Telecommunications Committee
    ------------------------

For the three taxi franchises in Austin—Austin Cab, Lone Star Cab and Yellow Cab—the economics are much sweeter. The city has granted the three companies a total of 744 permits. In turn, they pay the city $400 a year per taxi. The companies then lease the permits to the drivers for $250 to $295 a week, or between $13,000 and $15,340 a year (a 3,000-percent markup). For Yellow Cab, which controls more than 60 percent of the market, that works out to nearly $6.8 million a year in revenue from permits alone.

    -----------------------------------
A Temporary Change of Use to Public Assembly Permit is required for any event that will have more than 49 people occupying a building, if that building does not hold a legal Certificate of Occupancy for a Public Assembly Use that is regulated and regularly inspected, by the City of Austin and the Austin Fire Department (Restaurants, bars, etc.)
If alcohol and/or live music are part of an event, whether it is indoors or outdoors, additional Inspections and/or Permits, stating additional requirements and conditions, may be needed. For instance, the TABC requires Entry and Exit control, for an outdoor event that includes alcohol … creating an enclosed area to control entry and egress, to meet the TABC requirement, brings additional Fire Code inspections and requirements into play.
Permit requirements vary for each location, venue and event set up.

This is such a tangled mess it made me chuckle. I know people who would open such an investigation. We laugh at such people. The government, again, has to get in people's business... It's just all a big cluster, isn't it?

Can you go without your car for eight days? It is one thing to laugh at the government, but keep in mind that the suffering of others is a primary consequence of their antics.
