Cool. The real purpose of the gun laws is not to make us safe, its to make the US government safe from its people . Keeps us from revolting in the case the government turns too bad.

My thought exactly, the only reason anyone would have one, is to protect themselves from their own government. That is what they really are afraid of. The more pressing question I have never seen addressed in all the manufactured melee: How the hell did the jerk get an AR15 into a club? Sneak it past the bouncers? Then whip it out and start spraying? No one noticed this 3 foot long gizmo under his clothes (in Florida)? It seems a lot more went wrong beyond an idiot with a gun.

There are two pins holding the upper and lower groups together. One acts as a hinge the other as lock. Withdraw one and remove the magazine. quite small.

I don't know, but the fact no one seems concerned with it, seems really weird. If I am standing in line, and someone is walking like they have a stick up their a@@ (which I would think would approximate a AR15), then I might say to the club door man: "Check that out, man". Maybe that is not true for gay nightclubs..I don't go to any...

Had one. More than I can handle at my age. Gave it to my son.
Why does anyone need an AR-15? I dunno. Does anyone need an Infiniti car with 400 horsepower? They're fun for one thing. If you can afford one, why not? That's what freedom is all about. I don't particularly want or need the car or the gun, but I don't want anyone telling me that I can't have one. It's a classic example of the nanny state doing something "for my own good" but which in reality is doing it for its own good to accumulate power over its citizens (soon to be serfs).

Don't forget that the big advantage of the AR platform is its modularity, enabling you to have multiple calibers by just changing the upper. I have a 300 Blackout, and intend to acquire a standard 5.56 upper, and possibly a 50 cal Beowulf. The lower caliber that the military uses is good for game of coyote size, while the 300 can take down mule deer and feral hogs. The Beowulf (eight rounds in a standard magazine vs 30 for 5.56 or 300) can handle bigger game like wapiti and moose. You can have a real armory while still showing only one gun purchase (uppers do not require the paperwork or NICS check).

If I ran security for "a gulch," I would not require but strongly advocate that every gulcher annually train and NRA qualify to shoot at least a 70 score with the same primary weapon that shoots the same ammunition.
I would think the AR-15 should likely be among the five top choices for being that primary weapon. Maybe even the M16!
          I dream well, don't I?
This afternoon I'll be out shopping for a satisfactory 9mm carbine that I could not find on the opposite side of Birmingham last week.
Must admit that now I'm thinking about an AR-15. A son who will accompany me today has one.
He was surprised when I could shoot it more accurately than him at our favorite indoor range.
I told him that I had to NRA qualify with an AR-15 for the last 19 of 21 years of my being a state corrections officer.

I hope that I never HAVE to use it, but entitlement is getting so prevalent now that I suspect there will be more and more violence when the entitled people cant get their entitlements when they want them. My pit bulls have protected the house very well for the last few years. The bad guys seem to know that its not worth it to annoy an animal that makes quick decisions, has big teeth, and is NOT politically correct. These dogs are real sweethearts, except they somehow know who is good and who isnt..

Being responsible for what a big dog may or may not do just isn't old dino's cup of tea, though I do like dogs who like me.
I'd rather trust my two hands around a familiar weapon.

I keep them inside a 6 foot fence totally around the property at least.

There is a lot of responsibility if you have a gun. Cant brandish it to threaten potential attackers. Cant conceal it without a special permit. Probably cant have it in a car. God forbid you actually shoot someone and either kill them or wound them. Its pretty complicated actually. Plus, the attacker might take your gun and shoot YOU... Your dog wont do that..

I live in Alabama where you can open carry.
I have that permit because I prefer a hidden pocket pistol.
I've heard you can carry a gun in a car without a permit but that does not matter to me due to having one.
I can brandish a gun without aiming it just to show I have it and to keep away from me. I can aim it to frighten off a physical attack.
I once displayed a news photograph of three or four Alabama citizens making a citizens' arrest at gunpoint of three Christmas time burglars that they followed in a car in a community a short drive from where I live. One lady was aiming with a ladylike pretty pink pistol.
Only the burglars were arrested when the police came. Always carry a cell phone.
I can make a citizen's arrest but I can't shoot a crook running away. Not every crook knows that.
If you are forced to shoot someone, you can't shoot a perp again if he is no longer a threat.
As for someone taking your gun, that's why I prefer concealed carry and I always try to be aware of my surroundings. For example, should I be loading groceries into my car trunk from a grocery cart, I'm always looking around. No one ever beat me with my own prison guard stick--guns not allowed inside a prison because inmates can gang up and take it from your then very stupid open carry.
Dogs can be shot and silencers are sold at gun shops. Saw more of those this afternoon.

very interesting. Alabama sounds like a reasonable place. But even then, you need to be able to recall a lot of stuff in seconds in potentially dangerous and emotionally charged situations

That's why I don't want to shoot anybody.
I just want to be able to defend myself.
I would shoot a crazy person or a terrorist (same thing) shooting others. No one would blame me for shooting such a person in the back.

Better check your police and public prosecutor rules on that. Anything showing intent to escape puts the onus squarely on you. To defend successfully it has to be completely cut off with absolutely no chance of escape, defending others as well as yourself and the assailant was coming at you not stopped, pumping lead. More...you were not an experienced shooter, had no chance of disarming the other one and GET THIS PART were in MORE THAN MERE FEAR given the circumstances and your own experience.

With all of that don't say zip to anybody especially police as there notes go to the Prosecutors office act like you had immediate PTSD Never speak to or answer a police officer without your lawyer present, demand a lawyer , volunteer nothing, demand to see your family members, and they will help you out but they can't be overt about it. Such as repeating where you were in relation to and how there was no chance of escape . With all of that you MIGHT stand a chance of getting offf. BUT if you say something I bought the weapon to defend myself you just showed intent to use it. Or I practiced weekly. A crime is the joint union of action and intent. But the biggest problem is people running their mouths too much. they hang themselves even when they are innocent.

You will be asked the same questions or the same indifferent forms or in a different order. If it was answered once tell them to refer to their notes and clam iup especially if their is no lawyer present.

Good advice. I've watched tutorials about being really careful about what you say after being forced to shoot someone in self defense.
If there is a story about a self defense shooter being unjustly treated by law enforcement and/or a criminal justice system ONLY in Alabama in recent times, I'd like to see it or view it.
Do believe such horror stories are always in other states. I can't recall anything like that in Alabama.

As in, you are responsible for your own safety, use and carry of a weapon. Well, I think there is the problem, most of thse who are whining about guns, do not find the need for responsibility of the individual, to be requisite in any of their fantasies..just compliance...

AR's are like potato chips - one's never enough and as long as there's more room in the safe (or under the bed) there's always room for more. They're small, don't eat much........

At that point in the scheme of things it won't much matter. My point is weapons are readily available. The greater good would be survival - my own. But as a rule you are correct and having a reputation in that direction is part of it. Havfing your name and address on the permanent records files of a few weapons stores invites intrusion by more than one kind of unwanted visitors.

The worst thing one can do is advertise. Especially in a crime prone area like Washington DC where a license is required just to put the pieces of the weapon together in advance. The reason for the Waller law suits.

Never mind the borders the nation cannot protect it's own capitol much less against foreign incursion. Name a better or safer place to live has gotten to be a really poor attempt at sick urban humor.

The need for a weapon is based on one reason. Visiting the USA. If it isn't one kind of criminal it's another. Whose to say which is the worst kind. They are both dangerous and both armed. Not really something to be proud of as a national accomplishment.

Which is the worst sort? Why are you buying a firearm? Taking counsel of your own fears so to speak.

Not sure what the best choice in firearms is at the present time. Shotguns and earplugs come to mind The worst choice is easy. Anything unloaded, in pieces and in scattered locations.

AR's are exactly the type of weapon ownership that the 2nd amendment protects. Fact is that just about every self defense weapon made has been used by militia or standing army, and that includes every weapon and weapon modification that the BATF unconstitutionally forbids, restricts, or unusually taxes.

The 1939 US Supreme Court decision in Miller specifically stated that the 2nd Amendment applies only to military weapons. The current Regressives' push against military weapons is 100% unconstitutional.

While I agree with your conclusion, I wouldn't base it on Fedgov vs Miller. As I understand it, that "decision" was a fraud. The defendent had no representation whatsoever before the court and the statist asshat Supremes accepted the government's unconstitutional fabricated lies as truth. Every gun law since has been based on that travesty and they are all unconstitutional.

We are used to buying military surplus because they were cheap with lots of ammo available. Better an innocuous shotgun which is why I asked earlier about using snake shot in a pistol. Has that been tested as a short barreled shotgun?

Another iffy round in that regard is Glaser Safety Slugs but they are my odds on favorite. #9 pellets in a chilled liquid teflonn solution. They do not ricochet and cause problem that way. BUT they will penetrate until a different matrial is encountered fat to muscle etc. and then literally explode like a tiny grenade. The entry and exist wounds are worth examining. Shot into a big bar of lye soap. they make a very large internal cavity. That soap is equal to human flesh. Solve one problem inherit another.

The ruling that short barrel shotguns are illegal was based on government lies, as you said. The government claimed that short barrel shotguns were not used by the military, when in fact, in WW I, it was used. Nevertheless, the reasoning that the 2nd Amendment applies only to military arms is sound and has been a foundation of other laws. The Regressives have been making an intentional campaign to "forget" this fact and through mass voices claim that military arms are not protected by the Constitution and that the People should not have them. Which is precisely why the 2nd A exists - to protect the People from the government and its armies.

Waller vs. DC the courts ruled for the first time that the two phrases can be separated and honored the definition of personal protection as part of second amendment rights. DC is still quibbling about licensing procedures and trying to protect the gang bangers. So? It's back in the court system again.

115grain semi jacketed hollow points and make sure the feed ramp is polished and radiused by a good gunsmith . Especially if it's a Smith. It's a minimal round even with glasers the shot content is minimized. Next... the average distance for a shoot out with a pistol is about 10-15 feet. practice at longer ranges makes you better at shorter distances. but if it's anything over 20-25 switch to shot gun or some type of rifle. Full automatic fire is the shooters worst enemy. May look kewl but a decent shooter shooting single rounds on semi-automatic will have your lunch. Last tip for now. If iyou get body armor get the best kind like Second Chance So where's your target area. Groin. think of the surrounding area. massive bones and muscles lots of nerve junctures, lower intestines etc. family jewels and most armor I've seen doesn't protect that low.

In the long run, yes, a well made firearm will hold value and eventually appreciate vs fiat. You may find an older military rifle (e.g., garand) to be easier to maintain under adverse conditions than an AR15.

I watched the libertarian town hall last night. Although I think libertarians would be better ideologically than any of the other contenders, I was a bit disappointed by the intellectual inconsistency shown on the issue of anti-drug laws, and the somewhat silly persona of the two of them. We need the correct ideology of Rand, along with the communication skills of a Trump.

Unfortunately Johnson just didnt come across as well thought out and definitive. Some lady whose son died of an overdose was pressing him on anti drug policy- He said he favored legalization of marijuana but not other drugs (intellectually inconsistent) to start with. He needed to say that he would favor not legalization or illegalization of all drugs, but that the government has no business involving itself in prohibition AGAIN. It just promotes crime, increased prices, and lower quality. And her son died while the current anti-drug policies are already in force and trillions are being spent enforcing them. But, he failed miserably at dealing with her and looked stupid.

I wish I could have seen the entire answer, but CNN's clips are short and incomplete. So I can't answer with full understanding, term. Can you think of a good free market answer for such a loaded question that doesn't lose a lot of votes but still sticks to his basic goal of ending the drug war? If so, you should be his running mate, term. This is an issue where the public has been indoctrinated (by gov and religion) for generations. It won't be accomplished in the first 30 days of his term but it is important to move toward the free market solution starting with a "drug" that a hundred million Americans are familiar with first hand as benign. Those votes are there for the taking from Sanders, Trump, and Hillary. My guess is you may be right on one thing. He needs a staff that gets him better prepared to answer this and other questions.

I am probably the last person to suggest politically correct answers. That said, I could do a hell of a better job than these two did last night. Intellectual inconsistency is probably what bothered Ayn Rand about libertarians. He should have said that prohibition didnt work before, isnt working now, and wont work in the future even with more funding. That lady;s son OD'd while prohibition is currently in force as a testimony to its ineffectiveness. Plus, anti drug laws are a violation of a person's rights. Is sugar going to be the next illegal substance? Maybe then corn, since it has a lot of sugar.

I wonder if Walmart is now regretting the decision to stop selling ARs?

Probably not. They don't have the sales staff to handle the increase given the meticulous requirements of the purchasing laws. Walmart business model is to bring as many products as possible to the consumer at the lowest possible price. In that they excel. They also hire a lot of elderly, partially disabled, and new hires. They know what they are doing

The part that liberals always point to in the 2nd Amendment is the “well regulated” part. Unfortunately, the meaning of words has changed in the 200+ years since that was written. At that time “well regulated” meant (in today’s English) “well equipped.”

One store but it's an internet sales store as well as a walk in. Located near the intersection of three interstates in the middle of over populated eastern USA. it's 30,000 in one week orders caused a mandatory overtime situation at the manufacturer.

That does not count the other stores in Pennsylvania or the entire country.

Question #1. How many vehicles with Connecticut, Washington D. C. , Virginia and Maryland license plates were spotted in the parking lots adjacent to Hunter's Warehouse? Did any of them have Congressional stickers?

Question #2. Will the upsurge in manufacturing and retail sales be claimed as part of the Obungler's legacy. Why not?

Question #3 will this be seen as a way to pre-train the nations young people in preparation for activating the draft? Wasn't that the reason for NRA?

The last time I recall this happening was the assault weapons ban. At a Gun Show in San Jose California I witnessed many of the stores selling not much except for SKS rifles. Booth backdrops were made from double high pallets of cases of ammunition.

None of those vendors went home with any stock except that needed to stock their bank accounts. Another Clinton Victory for the economy.

Was there any real slowdown in acquiring SKS rifles and munitions? Not really. The ship's from China docked in Mexico and the items were trucked in under NAFTA.

The ban is gone but NAFTA remains.

In retrospect I do believe this latest early Xmas sales season is larger than that fostered by Clinton.

Not going to run out of AR15's though. The factory is working in an increase o f 10,000 or so sized overtime production units per month.
