I'm very happy to have landed in the Gulch...

Having been here for about a wwek as a guest, it was brought to my attention early on that there are many here in Galt's Gulch who are no longer concerned with trying to right the ship of state and have "shrugged." I completely understand.

I feel it only right, however, to say up front that I am not yet one among the many... I still have hope.

I am a supporter of an Article V Convention of States limited to proposing amendments to the Constitution that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, that limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and that limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress.

Virtually all of the time I have been here as a guest has been spent stating my position and arguing my case in the fine company of the folks on this thread: http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/posts/7e...

Although we disagree on many issues about which we all hold passionate opinions, they have been very gracious and agreeable. I can only hope to find more such enjoyable company in the days and months ahead.

Welcome, Michael. Like you, I still have hope - but it's fading quickly.

These are bad times, no doubt... but when I feel like saying to hell with it, I read a chapter or two of Freeman's "Affairs of Honor: National Politics in the New Republic"... she writes of the fierce political customs of the day that our Founding Fathers faced, of rituals and rhetoric that make today's most ardent partisans look like Boy Scouts... and it puts it all back into perspective.

I know we can do this - at the very least, the call, if not an actual ratified amendment.

In this case, just the spectacle of a public debate of good conservative ideas that rarely see the light of day would make it all worth while, no matter the outcome.

Welcome to the Gulch Michael, I too, share your hope. Would this be the Mogollon Rim?

Yep! I consider Arizona my home; moved there when I was 12 and graduated from high school in Mesa and then attended U of A. Love the rim country. Did lots of camping up there with my family as a teen. My dad loved it so much he requested his ashes be spread there when he died.

Well, we've only lived here for 21 years this September, so maybe in another 20 or so we'll be considered "locals!"

There are a lot of "final rituals" that happen up here, especially up on the Rim. There was a sad story a few years back about a son who brought his dog with him while casting his mother's ashes to the wind up on Promontory Butte. Unfortunately he lost track of the dog who wandered too close to the edge and lost his footing. Really sad. We've assisted in such things a number of times, up on the Rim and down in the white-water area of the canyon where Tonto Creek joins Roosevelt Lake.

          Such beautiful and timeless places...
