A radio interview: Announcer: Mrs. Jones, I understand you are 110 years old. Jones: That's right, sonny. and I've never been sick a day. Announcer: You mean you've never been bed ridden? Jones: Oh yes, many times -- and twice in a canoe.
They could start by studying the right things, instead of wasting money. I'm a prime example of the kind of research subject for longevity analysis: going back to the 1500s, my family has no incidence of cancer or heart disease, and in an era where 40 was the average life span, they were living regularly into their 80s, with a few centenarians. When I approached several of the big longevity research groups, I was told things like "We don't study healthy people," translation being, we're funded by pharmaceutical companies. Others, who purported to be studying healthy older people, were essentially running a high class senior housing/play area, charging the "test subjects" a mint to document their habits, diets, etc. None of the research firms, funded into the billions of dollars are attempting to analyze the genome of long-lived, disease-free subjects, which is where I think the solution lies.
an incentive of $1 billion dollars to the researcher who discovers the way to stop aging is a good start...like the X Prize....raised thru private donations...
You don't have to wait to hear "God doesn't want man to live that long." See my piece on "Transhumanism vs. a Conservative Death Ethos" here: http://atlassociety.org/commentary/co...
When man comes to understand reality instead of denying it because he wants it to different. There will be years of struggle ahead to get that message across to many, if not most. I can already here the 'God doesn't want man to live that long.' Or 'Man shouldn't try to play God' and on and on.
Agreed...reason and conscience is needed and in short supply these days. However, with life expectentcies that long, I would expect the worlds Kakistocracies to step up their efforts of eugenics and depopulation methods.
The key though would be to be at prime at 120 but look 20. Growing up in the fifties, with all the promise the future held, I expected to live forever...boy, that wet dream when south Quick...
gerontology and geriatrics for the science side but as for 'culture' the left will be whining about over population ruining their economy while lining up to take the shots. That includes RINOS. the Tort and trial lawyers will make sure it's not available in the USSA for 120 years.
Contradictory article. It starts out saying we may be able in time to increase our life expectancy in good health and then it states because we have become a stupid society which I agree with, it will never happen. So why the conversation?
That is actually one of the philosophical debates going on right now. "The Transhumanist Reader" edited by Max More has good material on this. But I say full speed ahead with all the work of life extension/singularity work!
