I find young people are more open to change than are older folks; they have less invested in the status quo, so less to lose. Some people see it as radicalism. I see it as openness to change.

The status quo is a welfare state in a death spiral, but many people older than her have a stake in getting what they can from the welfare state, either refusing to believe it will crash and burn, or selfishly getting their own before it crashes and burns. She's at an age when it's less painful to tell the truth than it will be when she gets older and has something to lose by changing the status quo.

I hope she wins and makes a difference.

Fresh eyes, mind and as you correctly stated, she has less to lose. And no tarnish. The status quo won't have any dirt with which to smear her. The only thing they can say is she's young. Which in mind, is a huge plus.
