Movie compared to the book

Well over the last 24 hours I have read up to page 178 in the book. I have not seen part 2 movie yet, but I think they did a great job of integrating the book into the movie in part 1 except for Francisco d' Anconia. I did not have an appreciation of him until now. Oh, and the Reardon Medal bracelet I bought has a total green sheen to it. And it is chunky, and uneven, just like in the book.

Hey crystal. I am about that far in the book too. Really enjoying it! When do you plan on seeing part 2? I agree with how they were true to the book. I saw a critic say that he thought that made it boring. I totally disagree.

Wow, that is a lot! What a wonderful journey you're on. Enjoy every minute of it. The movies are great, but there is nothing like the personal journey of a book where every word is earned! Congrats on the bracelet.

Ellis Wyatt was young in the book, but middle aged in the movie; I do believe the older Wyatt is more if what we expect for someone who owns massive oil fields. Good job movie guys.

It miss most the actions of Ragnar. It would be a good idea to have a nice pirate scene at the start of Part 3. Everyone likes pirates! But in Part 2, there didn't seem to be time for him.

Francisco is a major character, and I don't think I understood him, until I read that chapter. I was going to see the movie on Friday, then today, but I just can't put the book down yet. I will think I will see it on Monday.

Yeah, it's true that Frisco is a very major character in the story, and I agree that wasn't entirely apparent in the film AS1. However, I understood the need to cut parts in order to keep the film under two hours, and I think the producers did a good job deciding which parts to cut and which parts to retain.

Generally speaking, even the best film adaptations of classic novels do not manage to equal the greatness of the original novels, and I think this is really a testament to what made the novels great in the first place -- i.e., the majority of the novel is actually highly enjoyable to read, and hence people will lament its absence in a film adaptation.

Another example is the Lord of the Rings film adaptations. I thought Peter Jackson did a fantastic job, and I could hardly have envisioned a better adaptation of the novel. Yet even still, most days I would still rather read the novel than see the films.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll get a lot of enjoyment from reading Atlas Shrugged, and if AS1 led you to read the novel, then I'd say that is mission accomplished :)
