K-12 Education--The Real Problem & It's Not Common Core
My comments are based on having been a Sub/Regular Teacher for more than ten years in Public/Charter schools, Phila., Pa
The worst part of the problem is the average about 700 assaults on staff over the
past several years. Nationally, more than a million US kids a year leave high school. This is not sustainable for the US. We are in a hitech civilization on a global stage.
Very simply, the parent is the most influential in a kid’s life. Indeed, there are too many poverty teenagers/women having too many kids they can't properly parent. After that, teachers are left holding the bag. The statistic is that almost 45% teachers leave
the profession within their first five. years. If the US Armed Forces sustained that kind of attrition rate, the country would be in an uproar.
Very simply, the theoretical book learning of the ivory-tower college academics isn’t the practical, authoritative, detailed techniques new teachers need to handle these problems There needs to be an authoritative evaluation system of the teacher-training programs. Behavior Management
Learning Skills Motivation
As long as the establishment/citizenry doesn’t get kids constructively involved in education their destructive ways will continue

Is Public Education, the NEA, Common Core or BO any different from AH?

Can't we just buy into one political faction's propaganda to demonize the other and any initiatives associated with them?
Read up on TIMSS and PIRLS testing. The papers are pretty dry, all statistical, but they tell the story; American public schools are failing, but American private schools are succeeding. The question we must answer is - why?
Read what you can find about American TIMSS and PIRLS scores. Something has gone terribly wrong with American public schools. American public school children are noncompetitive internationally, but American private school students rank third in the world, behind the Japanese and Singaporeans. It's not money. We spend more per student than all but one or two other countries.
I've spent half my adult life overseas and can say honestly; American public school children are incredibly ignorant, have incredibly low skill levels, and have parents who don't know the difference because their children are being compared to children from similarly bad schools.
I have faith there are individual public schools that are still good. I don't know how you find them amongst all the failures, but asking to see their TIMSS and PIRLS scores might be a start.
