- 3Posted by BillJ 10 years, 10 months agoAs the first writer said, "there are other things afoot..."

I know for a fact that Sikorsky is limited in it's global sales by law. Many government's including and especially the US, limits the sales that Sikorsky can make into a given country. This is not only for new equipment, but also for replacement parts and supplies (limited by total dollar sales into that given country and when that limit is reached, all sales stop until next year) all because numerous aircraft are considered "war machines." But what about the hospital and rescue choppers and other uses?

Of course if you are not allowed to sell your goods, why produce them? This story was focused on Sikorsky but why did the company have to take these steps? That's the real story.

This is once again an example of what could be called "the 20th Century Motor Company" syndrome. Does anyone else see a parallel here? In this case, it isn't the workers that demand "balanced sharing", it is government. So who gets hurt by the suppression of sales? Answer, the good employees of Sikorsky. The ones that make these great products. They are being penalized for being successful. Sound familiar?

Free market suppression by government.... "We need more big government to control every aspect of our lives to protect us, right?" In my opinion, WRONG. As Ben Franklin said "those that would give up their freedom for the sake of security, deserves neither"
Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|

- 2Posted by mminnick 10 years, 10 months agoThe economic times are only part of the story. There are other things afoot in the Sikorsky situation. Like nothing off the drawing board since the UH-60 and a few other items.Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|

- 1Posted by Timelord 10 years, 10 months agoI live in the greater Hartford, CT area and I work down the street from Pratt & Whitney. It's too bad to see the better part of 600 fellow residents lose their jobs. Maybe our elected collectivists, the ones who generally oppose war, will start chanting for more invasions and "regime change" just so the War Machine can remain full staffed! When you're a progressive and you're face with this choice: make peace and cost thousands of jobs therefore increasing poverty and oppressing more people, OR make more war and employ those who might otherwise be oppressed?

But our governor, going full steam ahead with the story of how great the recovery in CT is, keeps handing out public money to companies to move to or stay in CT. And even though our next budget is already showing a giant shortfall he's proposing writing every tax filer in the state a check for $50.

Yeah, $50! Yipee, now I can buy almost a full tank of gasoline! But that $50 isn't aimed at me, it's aimed at those who get the EITC - a refund of income taxes they never paid. Those guys will be excited to get $50 because they can go out and buy almost 4 packs of smokes!Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|

- 2Posted by $ Thoritsu 10 years, 10 months agoIf you didn't notice it before now, you weren't paying attention.
One might argue it needs more, but I would argue the next reforms in this area are on the Government side, where no one ever gets laid off or is accountable.Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink|
- 1Posted by brs02 10 years, 10 months agoSeriously? Defense and Military spending is one of the few areas of spending granted in th constitution. We are about to shrink to pre-WW II levels (because that worked out so well) and 2/3's pof the budget is on social programs. Sorry, I feel you are out of touch to keep ringing the "mil/ind complex" bell.Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink|
- 1Posted by Zenphamy 10 years, 10 months agoThe Founders seriously distrusted a standing army and we haven't had to 'defend' this country since maybe WWII. The Navy (including Marines) was included in the Constitution. No standing army. But the militia of the states was included.Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink|
