He probably got these knives out of a kitchen butcher-block knife holder. These are high capacity knife holders and should be banned. There is also no control over who can draw a knife out of one of those things. They should be designed so that you can draw no more than one knife at a time. And only a certified chef, with proper training should be allowed to buy kitchen knives.

"He was able to get the knives into the school because it doesn't have metal detectors." This was said as if it's the norm to have metal detectors at high schools... ???
