Man of Steel and John Galt

I'm not going to pick on the poor girl who wrote this article. She was very honest about herself, and what she thought while watching the new Man of Steel movie that I have been so happy about. But her comments are useful because she represents the same type of people who are afraid of Atlas Shrugged and more specifically, John Galt. John Galt is a Superman without the outfit, or the super powers. John Galt is actually much more powerful becasuse he has no doubt...........about anything.

Proviso: I haven't seen the movie.

However, the point of the hero is to inspire one to be better. Deep down, I think this is offensive to her. She wants to "relate to" the protagonist, not be inspired by it. What does she want to relate to? Vices. Flaws. It's a form of "I'm OK, you're OK" that devolves into "I'm screwed up, but the hero is screwed up too. I guess that makes me a hero, right?"

Most objectionable line to me: "Personality is something you are forced to develop to make people like you in spite of your inherent deficiencies."

You have it. She represents a lot of people who will be shattered when they hear the John Galt speech in the upcoming Atlas III. It will be hard to miss once they film it and put teaser clips online.

"He’s all the fun of playing Make Believe with a 6-year-old who keeps changing the rules on you so that he’s invulnerable and always wins."

Isn't that something? What percentage of the population thinks just like her? I would say over 85%. It takes a movie like this to pull it out of people, to get them out of their shell enough to even consider such things.

If this was Atlas Shrugged, of course the argument would be that the material is just "mean." But as an action movie the message is sold through a spectacle, but the intellectual argument is the same. However, since Superman is accepted in pop culture, that 85% give the film a chance wanting to like it. But they feel like it's that friend who has a truck they are nice to in case they need them some day. LOL
