My son is the older generation he's in his 50s.
    Then there's the senior generation -- 65+
Then there's me, the ancient generation.
Anyone making it to 65 or more deserves a stipend, if for no other reason than hhaving to put up with humanity for so long. Seniors deserve discounts for gracing the establishments with their presence. Like Asian cultures seniors should be revered for their accumulated wisdom, and their ability to overcome all the medications foisted upon them. Moreover, in this fast moving, hectic life, the example of walking and especially driving slowly should set an example to relax, slow down, it'll still be there when you get there. Finally, and most importantly, seniors deserve discounts and deals simply for existing. They are, as the old movie theaters used to advertise, a Preview of Coming Attractions. Just picture your head on one of those decrepit bodies and you'll know what to expect. That's worth something, isn't it?

I assume you said that with satiric intent. I hope
      so, anyway.

Although true, it was a bit satirical.
One of my ways of coping with life's vagaries is humor. I, in reality have a terrible temper. However, that is also a terrible waste of energy. To me, humor is the oil that keeps the engine from seizing up. (I also use a lot of metaphors.)

My first reaction to this sign is "ungrateful little SOB, since everything you now have is thanks to the effort of those who've gone before you." Then my Objectivist side kicks in, and I remember that I'm proud of the fact I can now pay for a lot of things I couldn't when I was young, without relying on the charity of others. The snotty disrespect still irks me, as I was taught to respect my elders.

My daughter, long ago when she was about 10, made an observation that was at first, confusing to her and which she ended up figuring out on her own.

One day as we were driving, she asked me "Mom, why are all the hot cars being driven by old men?"

Before I could answer she said "Oh, yeah...they have the money, they can afford them!"

Senior discounts aren't charity. If stores weren't making a profit from discounted purchases by seniors, the discounts wouldn't be offered.

And non-seniors are free to bargain for discounts of their own, they don't have to accept the higher price offered to them.

I agree. Senior discounts are offered to get more senior business to places the seniors might not go to otherwise. Like del taco that gives ,,10%.
