It was made in the Gulch. In the book, Dagny gives it to a man (whose name i don't remember) who is an expert on Cigarettes and he determines that it is not made from any of the remaining Cigarette manufacturers.
It had a gold dollar sign on it. They turned up in several different places in the book. She gave a butt to the old news stand operator in the Taggart building because he collected cigarettes and also sold them at his stand. I don't think they ever mentioned his name though...

While the movie is good, you are missing a ton by not reading the book.
The smokes with the $ is a good example. It is her first clue and represents much more than a pack a smokes, but that was all lost in the first movie. Read the book, or listen to it on audiobook.
Actually I love to read, and the books are always better. But at this point, I will wait until after part II because I want to be surprised. Don't tell me what happens. :) Yeah, they didn't elaborate on the cigarette at all in the movie.
It means the same thing that shoots the joy up your spine when you see a "Who is John Galt" bumper sticker, or a grocery worker wearing Rearden metal on their wrists. It means you're with friends.
