I have a pretty wide range of music that I love, from classical to blues to prog rock to name a few, but always open to finding new tunes (or old tunes that I gain new appreciation for) that inspire intelligent thought, and have me admiring a person's art, passion, and integrity while listening. My favorite music is hard to define. Most people call it all "ambient". I certainly love ambient, but I also love downtempo, chill, and the atmospheric genres that set my mind free to concentrate on whatever or wherever I direct it. It's almost like a drug-induced high to be free of any care except that which you want to care about.

My tastes are all over the map. I find good and bad in most genre. I am kind-of partial to jazz, especially if the time signature is odd or polyrhythmic. Circles, written by John Peacock and performed by his band, called Truman, overlaid 6/8 time on top of 4/4 for the verses and switched to 5/4 for the chorus. Pussy Wiggle Stomp, from the Don Ellis Orchestra album Autumn, is in 7/8. A lot of the jazz/rock stuff Zappa did was in strange time-signatures, but very melodic. I also like classical - favorites there include Brahms' second piano concerto, Beethoven's seventh symphony, Poulenc's concerto in Gm for Organ, Strings and Tympani, and Jupiter, from The Planets, by Gustav Holst. I'm a major Pink Floyd fan. I like the punk rock group NOFX (especially their album "White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean"). I'm partial to comedy country - Cow Patti, by Jim Stafford and Wolf Creek Pass, by C.W. McCall are a couple good ones. I like my folk songs funny, too... but they can be political: a good way to fight evil is to poke fun at it. "Your Friendly Liberal Neighborhood Ku Klux Klan" by the Mitchell Trio is a good example (and a favorite). Then there's music with a purpose: show tunes and incidental music for movies and television. In my opinion, Henry Mancini was the best. And I have a couple Christian rock groups I've enjoyed - Duvall and The Fold... mainly because their music is from the heart and might happen to have a subtle Christian message, rather than an overt and obvious attempt to sell Christianity with music.

I've been listening to Queen lately ... always knew the popular stuff, but never heard the ballads that I'm really jonesing on now: Love of My Life, You Take My Breath Away, Save Me ... Freddie was so passionate and hearfelt, awesome stuff. Not always in the most rational intellectual bent, but in an interview he said **happiness** was the most important thing to him in life. He said music was his passion, but he wanted to be happy more than anything ... don't know enough about him to know if he ever achieved anything remotely close to true happiness, but the genuine and honest struggles certainly come out in the music

No hiphop rapcrap or pop for me. As a musician I really like playing blues and some good rock.

Great question. As a musician, it's probably easier for me to say what I don't like - Christian contemporary (not including Black Gospel - love Gospel). That's about it. I'm pretty much down with just about everything else. ;)
