Merry PC to all gulchers!
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday (not to be confused as implying a 'holy day'), practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practice of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or for their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2016, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country, nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee. . Merry PC! -- john

That makes me very leery of Mormons, Muslims, and some of the other cults that think I should believe their dogmas.
I think a lot of religion is just an excuse to live without thinking- just take what the leader says blindly.
That said, SOME of the dogma is not bad really. Its just that there is no accountability contained in it when it no longer applies.

The old toast- Here's mud in your eye- may be safer.

Maybe a "mellow PC solstice reason for the season" would be grander for blander.
What we need here is a vapid PC nation under intellectual sedation. All ho ho O 58 states.
Yeah, just get along.
What could go wrong?
I bless you back with a quote repeatedly said by busy ray gun shooters in Mars Attacks: "We come in peace. We come in peace."

In a similar vein, when I sneeze and someone offers, "God bless you," I politely respond, "Thank you," though not really expecting a deity to intercede on my behalf. (Grammatically, commanding a third-person god to bless my health is a jussive subjunctive.)
When I sneeze and nobody says anything, I bless myself (as though that might help) with, "Bless me—Thank me—I'm welcome." (Mustn't be impolite, especially to myself.)
Merry Christmas and I hope your Hanukkah was bright....Oh...and here's to a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Its lining up a hot summers' day here, the lamb shoulder is roasting nicely and i am delighted - received Josh Groban's new album.
Shorter version
sort of winter solstice festival. I understand that it
was a pagan holiday to start with. I believe that the
tree was originally a sort of north European pagan
symbol. But I usually call it "Christmas" because that's the name by which it is generally
known, and when I speak I wish to be under-
stood. During my childhood and adolescence, as
I recall, it was mainly the ultra-religious people
who complained about Christmas, because of
the secular aspects, the tree, Santa Claus, the
presents, the "commercialization", etc. And they
seemed to be accusing unbelievers of somehow
having stolen the holiday, but then I found out
there had been a celebration long before Chris-
tianity. But I enjoy the season as a sort of
kaleidoscope (sp?) of celebration, including the
carols, "Handel's Messiah", Dickens's Christ-
mas Carol (though I'm something of a Scrooge
myself), "It's a Wonderful Life" (though I don't
agree with George Bailey's giving up his person-
al ambition to stay in that town and take care of
those people) etc.
"because I wish to be understood," I can use their language
for communication, just like Liberty here! -- john

Merry Christmas to my fellow trouble-makers...
Me? I'll just stick with Merry Christmas! It has a nice ring to it.
Beautiful!
