It seems the writer is more outraged at the fact the islamic terrorist bought guns in a store rather that being outraged for the killing itself. Paris was under gun control. Was he outraged there too?
The Times just plain lost it. Now they don't even pretend to be objective observers.
They have as much as said: no person, except a law-enforcement officer, an active-duty military service member, or the bodyguard of a Very Important Person, should own, or even so much as touch, a firearm.
We may regard them as no better than the government organ. For this government.
Even Rand didn't figure on anything like this. If you'll recall, Henry Rearden carried a gun during his long walks. He was "carrying" when Ragnar Danneskjöld met him on that lonely road.
Police dont prevent attacks on my freedom. They arrive after the attack has occurred. If we want to protect ourselves FROM the attacks, we have to do it individually and if that means I need to carry a gun, so be it. Government has shown it is powerless to protect me from terrorism.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that 100% of the recent victims in Ca. were in complete compliance with the NYT's expected gun control policy. Didn't work out well for them.
Thinking of a backup gun for my pocket pistol, I am currently reviewing derringers sold by a mail order company. These derringers shoot assorted projectiles, including "snake shot." So I'm also thinking that snake shot may be appropriate for socialist gun grabbers.
I have a friend who has a derringer chambered [almost] in .45. The cartridges actually, just ever so slightly, stick out of the front of the gun. Remember, if we have to shoot, we want to shoot to stop. I don't think "snake shot" would do it. .....one of the bravest things I ever did was to shoot that gun twice. The first one was a surprise - but I knew what was coming with the second one.
I'm also thinking of getting an air rifle in case of a huge economic collapse or a power grid shutdown or both. Maybe a crossbow. Either could provide protein without attracting people with noise. I've some bloody-fingered messy feathers experience for pulling breast meat out of doves. YouTube has taught me how to skin a squirrel, since there is a dense population of those about my home.
I did not mean to contradict or disparage you or what you had said.
I think it's absolutely vital to get the point across widely that when we shoot, it is not to kill, it is to STOP. I should have that information on a rubberstamp, because it has to go everywhere. Thanks for letting it go with you for a bit.
I'm a retied corrections officer. I recall both at the academy and during a week set aside for annual training (21 times for me), we were told to "shoot to stop." This was purely for legal reasons and it was drummed into us to use that phrase in a courtroom if it was about shooting an inmate. But we were also told to "aim at center mass." As for the paper target at the range, it was a black silhouette of a human head and an upper torso. The ringed bulls eye was located where the heart would be. At the dead center of the paper target. I was often mentally reminded of what Clint Eastwood's character repeated during the showdown scene of "A Fistful of Dollars." "Don't forget the heart, Ramon. Always hit the heart"
I also shoot for the waist to knees area with center of mass the family jewels and pelvic area. The other area is where the body armor goes. What's the point of shooting there? Especially if you are in one of the departments with a 9mm calber limitation.
Our department taught and required two shots to kill and gave you a first time unpaid suspension for shooting to wound. The score over the 50 some year life of the department was an average five to zero annually. with one police officer fatality from a motorcycle wreck in that 50 some years.
Shooting in the lower half of the torso offers a lot of significant target opportunities and less chance of continued fire by the opposition. We were using .38 + P 125 grain SJHP. Shoot to Stop wasn't considered then. I take that is the PC term these days?
Personally I preferred Glaser Safety Slugs which worked even better in the groin area with zero chance of riccochet.
Uniformed inmates do not have body armor but you make a good point. Retired me may some day encounter a terrorist wearing body armor. Put one in the crotch and then aim at the head. Lat time I was at the range I aimed at a paper target's head and inadvertently put ten 9mm rounds in the neck. I figured out thereafter that I was breathing while shooting. That's a reoccurring bad habit if I'm not thinking about it. It would not surprised me if I breathed while shooting during an emergency. Don't think I'll lose much sleep over (gag! gag!) that.
I never did that neck thing before. It was kinda weird. A posted "why you missed" chart at the place indicated that I was not holding my breath while triggering. The chart was circular for which way the miss went with explanations printed. Breathing was at the bottom of the circle. The explanation is backed up by years of DOC gun range instructors telling me that I was breathing again. When I remember not to breathe, my shooting is always very good.
that's true. Finger on the trigger or poor grip is usually left and right. Too high is a weapons control issue. But no matter if you do it the sam each time it's just a question of adjusting the aiming point.
Do your tests start at the close point and work back to increased ranges? If so think about putting all the round in one hole while you are up close then we you go back and this is easier on outside ranges and get to shooting off hand unassisted or whatever you can shoot over the top of the target. Or to the side ...If by that time you have made a decent hole with a tight group up close the grader doesn't know if you missed, unlikely, or just put the round through the enlarged hole left from the close up shots.
then everyone thinks you are james bond or something. If they ask why the enlarged hole is where it is use the protective vest answer. Most of the hot shots think that is really a cool attitude Then the word get's around. That dude always shoots for the nuts - and hits where he aims.
No one hassles you after that. And you can't quit worrying about longer range distances. Average distance in a pistol shoot out is ten feet anyway.
Ten feet I could bulls eye while breathing! It would likely be the bottom of the bull but still in there. I generally will run the target out to roughly 25 feet or so. May try your advised technique next time.
If you are going to a test range for your job practice on a private range first....then suit the act to fit the props and the audience. The hard part is that first two to three inch wide hole and the number of rounds provided for each stage....
I love this statement, "weapons designed to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency.”
Lets check this out, first we had rocks, then spears and then spears with rocks for points progressing to the bow and arrow and right up until today. Every weapon from the beginning has been designed to kill with brutal speed and efficiency or we would still be throwing rocks. Actually, a common punishment in the Islamic world is exactly that, "Stoning" and I would be happy to cast the very first rocks when they put the NY T in the pit with all the little trolls that write these ridiculous editorials.
First thing... Consider the source. NY Times started out as a paper completely devoted to 'yellow journalism.' It has since graduated to the status of being known as the paper that routinely fabricates stories. It's located in a city of looters and moochers. A city that absent having been hit by terrorists would still be considered the embarrassing armpit of the naiton. You may find them equal to or greater than a bunch of pot heads. I find them pathetic. They are clearly not Pace Picante material and never will be,
So why get all incensed over the meaningless antics of seven million amazing assholes?
You may add Chicago to that last and a few others. They don't count and demonstrably can't count.
Two buildings and four thousand bodies and they are still the armpit of the nation.
Nevertheless I shall ditto the comment that follows and the disgust I feel for what is clearly the comments of 'enemies domestic. There The two thumbs up is official.
Dear Reader; When one might read an article and become enraged, the reader should calm themselves and consider the source. Many of the members of the 4th Estate, the NY Slimes in particular, fail to understand the Constitution, its amendments, and the connotations occurring in the absence of those documents. They completely fail to realize that their selective ability to contaminate paper with their slanted vitriol might be removed by the absence of the 2nd Amendment, the defender of the other 9 Amendments and of the Constitution itself. All of the Founding Fathers warned against future administrations, especially ardent Federalists like Obama and Trump might choose to silence debate and resistance by confiscating the means of such resistance: guns.
To put this in proper perspective just ask the following question. "After all the honest citizens have had their guns taken away who will still have guns?" The answer is the government, terrorists and criminals. Is that really a good outcome?
It takes some kind of special ignorance to proffer the notion that more gun laws/restrictions would cause a person contemplating breaking the ultimate law against murder to cease due to threat of breaking a gun law... The Tsarnaev brothers used a pressure cooker bomb... No gun required.
money talks and b/s walks. some time back the times was having financial problems, who stepped in to help them my guess in the saudis. so they now have to be against the 2nd amendment and private gun ownership. these people including 0 have become the best salesmen m the country for the fire arms producers. armed conflict unfortunately is coming.
They smoke different things. The "useful idiots" and the true believers are the lotus eaters of the agenda. The believe the "Sky is Falling" from Chicken Little and they must do whatever they can to prevent it, and they think that the only way to do it is by eliminating all guns. They are blind and never take into account that miscreants, whether criminals or Jihadists will have no trouble having guns and using them on the unarmed citizens. Then there are the puppet masters. They know that an unarmed populace is easier to control. It's as easy as that. That and control of the food supply are most likely the easiest way to become the first Emperor of America.
The one solace I have is that the only people who still read the NY Times are those picking apart their pathetic articles. If they just ignored them, they'd descend into the rubbish heap of obscurity just like every other left-wing newspaper.
I am already on the "no fly list." I keep a can of fly spray handy and when a fly appears I aim carefully and shoot down the fly. This is good practice for when a progressive or other communist tries to take my guns the spray can will change into a firearm and he or she can join the dead fly on the floor.
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
And before they came for anyone ...
THEY TOOK AWAY THEIR FIREARMS.
But before they could take the firearms ...
they used the media to turn people into sheep.
