Obamacare causing Target to drop coverage for part-time employees

The latest Obamacare employment casualties are part-time workers at big-box retailer Target. According to a recent report in The Hill, the company has decided that, in order to cut costs, it will be dropping health coverage for its part-time employees - despite President Obama's unconstitutional one-year delay of the employer mandate:
In a blog post on the company's website, Jodee Kozlak, the executive vice president of human resources, framed it as a positive development for part-time employees of the company.
"The Health Insurance Marketplaces provides new options for healthcare coverage that we believe our part-time members may prefer," she wrote. "In fact, by offering them insurance, we could actually disqualify many of them from being eligible for newly available subsidies that could reduce their overall health insurance expense."
Uh, well - perhaps not.

- 1Posted by fivedollargold 10 years, 10 months agoThis law is already hurting higher education, particularly community and technical colleges, which depend upon a lot of adjunct (part-time) faculty. Adjuncts who used to teach four or five classes per term have been told they will be limited to two or three. (No one is really sure how the Feds will count college credit hours towards the 30-hour weekly limit.) Worse, many adjuncts teach at multiple colleges, just to make ends meet. If an adjunct, for instance, works for two state colleges in the same state, they will be considered ONE employer. Adjunct teaching is the ONLY source of income for many of them; in fact, many make less than $20,000 yearly from teaching. Cutting them back will drive them out of the profession. Tuition for 2-year colleges will increase dramatically in order to hire more full-time faculty to cover these classes. (They don't have the option to hire more graduate student instructors.)
