I stumbled upon the thread when there was already 130 posts. I haven’t read all of yet. Certainly haven’t up or down voted any of the remarks. I don’t usually do so unless I’m actually contributing to the thread. Can I put my thoughts here? I’m just posting and running...

I love cannons,I ran all the way around the Capital building to catch the 21 cannon salute when Reagan was lying in State. But do I want the right to own one? Lol. I dunno. I can see the teenagers a couple doors down shooting their cannon directly at the line of trees at the lake from their patio on the Fourth of July, if we could all own cannons without regulations and permits and such.. What can I say? Please don't set my townhouse on fire? Um, no, I don’t want to live in a society that resembles the Old West, some boundaries on weaponry would be nice. Smart regulations needed.

When I was a kid, my whole world revolved around fireworks, archery equipment, 22 caliber rifles, kites, lawn darts, model rockets, etc. Anything that flew or shot a projectile was fascinating.

I am sure that like you, the neighbors were horrified. Somehow, we managed not to get hurt or hurt anybody else. But then again, our parents would have given us no end of grief if we had.

Lawn Darts and Fireworks were banned, firearms might be next. I sometimes wonder if in the future they will just get to the root cause and ban young men? The world would be a safer place.

I'm going to go back after some more thought and make a point. I can think of hundreds of people I wouldn't trust with their finger on any nuclear trigger. - or a FAE bomb. Some in the neighbor hood some on the work site and some in the military. Part of it was intelligence level, part of the time was a distinct lack of anything resembling moral fiber, I've also noticed the one place where the most of that breed or lack of breeding can be found in working in, around, for, elected or appointed to goverenment. The worst however are the elected officials. I'm with Mark Twain on that one. That is the one group that would have to prove themselves not guilty to get in the gate.
