Rand Paul's Q&A's yesterday

Interested in opinions. Rand Paul answered some questions; less than we all wanted (there were quite a few). Of those that he did answer, I've drawn some conclusions, and they are not very positive. I have noticed a trend in most of his responses - they are not quite to the question asked and most of them are not definitive or firm. I do not get a sense of deep philosophical convictions, at least not of the Libertarian or Objectivist sort. What do you think?
I suspect his lack of specificity was calculated for political reason. His answers were probably as specific as he dared while maintaining hope to be elected. In today's political climate anything he might have said (written) that could cost him a vote may very well have ended up being used as a weapon in the MSM. It is a shame really... the games one must play to be elected. I only wish I could be a fly on the wall when he is unguarded in his comments. Of course, I feel that way about all politicians.

He did not answer the business tax 14.5% portion which easily could have remained as part of the fair tax where it began. Looked like a move to gain support.
14.5% end user consumption tax well below the original 30%. With a nice Right To Life exemption (RTL is based on the belief that government has no business taking that which is required to exist.) But converting 14.5% to a VAT was curious. Businesses after all pay no taxes and are paid for acting as collectors. All business does it mark all the embedded taxes up in the overhead column and if hitting them directly under column marked COG for Cost of Government. What's left is Profit minus COG equals true profit.
The end user, you and me, pay the whole thing.
What makes it' curious is it's more of a Nancy Pelosillyni favorite. But it didn't change anything The total of 29% is still spot on the 30% of the original plan.
