Directive 10-289: ""In the name of the general welfare, to protect the people's security, to achieve full equality and total stability, it is decreed for the duration of the national emergency that— "Point One. All workers, wage earners and employees of any kind whatsoever shall henceforth be attached to their jobs and shall not leave nor be dismissed nor change employment, under penalty of a term in jail." - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged 1957

IRS Regs. for US Code 4980H: "the employer may not reduce the size of its workforce or the overall hours of service of it employees" under penalty of perjury. -New Obamacare Regulations issued.

Interestingly the San Diego Initiative which supports a north american authority, states that companies shall comply with regulations which have them list each employee and their skill for rapid deployment to disasters or emergencies in US, Canada and Mexico. Although these measures are not yet in place, The SDI has the support of our federal government through the Secretary of Commerce.

Oh, absolutely NOT, Mr. IRS. I did not reduce my labor force from 106 to 98 because of Obamacare. I do so solemnly swear.
Am I free to go?

Yes, the current situation is similar to the book. However, I can't see anyway the real producers will ever be willing to crash the system. Producers like Boeing, Microsoft, Shell etc., will not as they have the looters backing them up. It's just us fool workers that are getting screwed. If everyone suddenly refused to pay taxes, that would do it. Nothing short of that. So we are doomed.
