Paglia is a culture critic, libertarian and Ayn Rand fan. Whether or not you appreciate rap, I have always been soulfully impressed with the poetry of Eminen 's songs . He is quite an artist albeit tortured. Even so his ballads with their urgency are romantic and bigger than life. I always thought he should write a Broadway musical

Gaga' s get ups remind me of Effie' s in the hunger games. Okay that comment does not further the discussion. Vote me down.

The truth can never be voted down. I agree. But Effie's philosophy is way deeper than gaga's, which isn't saying much.

Susan Collins' "Hunger Games" seemed to pull on many of the same strings connecting to my mind to Objective Epistemology. The fight for what is important to the individual, was right out of the Galt's soliloquy on the purpose of life. Katniss is way more emotional in her responses but she values the same things as the inhabitants of Galt's gulch. I thought Collins's employment of trading one tyranny for another in the alliance with district 13 was brilliant. Individual freedom is always the natural yearning of the human spirit. Or the statement, "I thought we agreed not to lie to one another" from president Snow - the practical equivalent of - the truth is the truth - or A is A. I found a lot of AS in HG

I did as well. It all boils down to individualism. The writer of Infidel (a young lady who escaped islam) also speaks much about being an individual and freedom. How others underestimate it so much is very scary to me. I hope HG plants a seed in young minds out there that make them take notice of events.

there are plenty of altruistic moments. for example Katniss' relationship with Peter. What's the answer-they'll both eat it? There are clearly some AS themes in the story-
people struggling for values, having a real plot, some resolve.
But Brave New World, Animal Farm, 1984- socialist inspired.

As LS stated earlier, i just hope that a novel such as HG can open the eyes of our younger generations the absolute tyranny of statist ideology. The promise of utopia is always at the expense of those who produce, either through the control of their actions through slavery or the control of their production through guilt and regulations ( and a well funded IRS to enforce the will of bureaucrats ).

They had influence over the people and snow knew it. He couldn't let them both die. And they weren't going to off each other. What altruistic thing did I miss there?

I love Eminem's lyrics and hate the trash Gaga calls lyrics. Love this article, thanks!

Paglia is an interesting writer. Although she does not call herself an Objectivist, so many of her perspectives align. There is an article out there where she compares herself to Rand. She's lofty like that. She recently took on Maureen Dowd and some others about feminism. She loves strong women and hates feminism movement.
here is an interview Reason did with her in the 90s:
